The Accuser

The Accuser

When you and I have trouble in this world
there is an accusation being made that we
are not a totally committed believer.

The Accuser is determined to test your faith.

Count it an honor when God allows you
to be put on trial for your faith in Him.

If your life is full of joy and peace rejoice.

From your home of safety you do not have to look
very far out your window to see a world in trouble.

I am not a doom and gloom person but the reality
found in the scriptures concerning peace and
joy also reveals life with trouble and pain.

The same Jesus who said I have come
that you might have peace also said
in this world you will have trouble.

We must understand how to handle
both the joy and peace and the trouble.

In the Book of Revelation we are told there is an
“Accuser” of believers, he accuses them day and night.

Probably one of the clearest illustrations
of this is the story of Job.

Job enjoyed peace and joy as a righteous and upright person.

It was the very blessing of God on Job’s life
that made him such a big target for the “Accuser”.

The Devil's accusation was Job only serves God
because of God’s goodness and protection.

The accusation was to say Job really
is not a totally committed believer.

When you and I have trouble in this world
there is an accusation being made that we
are not a totally committed believer.

The Accuser is determined to test your faith.

He would love nothing more than to sift
you like wheat as he wanted to do to Peter.

I have found all my life my faith has been tested.

I don’t like it but it is true.

What I do like is that after my faith is
tested I receive a crown of glory even if I
have less things due to the cost of the battle.

The Accuser will try to make you feel ashamed as a believer.

I constantly fill a weight of embarrassment on my shoulders
as I daily rub shoulders with the world around me.

All of us want the feeling of being accepted.

And the acceptance I feel on Sunday morning
is not what I feel Monday through Friday.

On Sunday I am excited about all the
wonderful promises of God and want to share
it with everyone I meet throughout the week.

But I so often feel those I am sharing with
want to label me and keep their distance.

I boldly live my life of faith and I do
have a lot of respect in the community.

But I still have people who want to shame me by
saying things like, the church is only after your
money, or point out religious leaders than have fallen.

This comes because people want to justify their
own way of life without God in a meaningful way.

Our Accuser uses people and situations in
our lives to say we will not keep the faith.

The Greek word in Revelation 12:10 is kategoros (kat-ay'-gor-os)…

Means “against one in the assembly, i.e. a
complaintant at law; specially, Satan”

From the words meaning “against” and “in the town”

In the United States the law says
we are innocent till proven guilty.

But the Accuser labels you as guilty and
works to prove it to the community so
you will walk in shame and disgrace.

Jesus Christ bore our shame and disgrace.

He promises “never to leave you or forsake
you therefore we can say with confidence the
Lord is our helper what can man do to us”.

So don’t be surprised when you fall into various trials.

When you are being accused and all manner
of evil things are said about you.

Because God is not ashamed to put you on trial.

Even if in some way your faith is proven to be
weak Jesus already knows and will not forsake you.

So go ahead and be confident that God will help
you when the accuser attacks you or your loved ones.

We don’t have to worry about what men will do to us.

God will continue to meet all our needs
according to His riches in glory.

Scripture Reading

Revelation 12:10-12 NIV

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

"Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.
11 They overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.
12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short."
