The Accuser
Keeping our Confidence
"Oh, that I had
someone to hear me!
I sign now my defense
— let the Almighty answer me;
let my accuser put his
indictment in writing. Job 31:35
If you are a righteous person trying to live like Christ
There will be times when you see the news and the murder is
not found,
the thief got away and you will wonder why bad things are
happening to you.
We have an accuser and he is not interested
in accusing wrong doer so they repent and do right
We have an accuser who wants to put doubt in our minds
Doubt that we are good, doubt that God cares
And doubt that a life of righteousness is worth it.
“Confidence” is one of the
greatest things you can possess.
Look at Hebrews 11:1 again…
“Now faith is being sure of
what we hope
for and certain of what we do
not see.”
If the accuser can shake your
confidence he has shaken your faith.
Ever feel like everything is going wrong in your life?
You feel like you are being punished for some wrong doing.
Yet, in your heart you can’t think of any offense.
One of the natural things that happen to good
people is they are sensitive to correction.
If a bad thing happens to them they go into self-examination.
They think I must have done something wrong.
Yes, God disciplines those He loves.
We should be sensitive to God’s correction.
But there are times when bad things come our
way and it is not because we did anything wrong.
In Job 31, Job made a list of his life
and how he walked in integrity.
His list is amazing as he not only says his life is
pure in each area, he takes a strong view against sin.
Job called a curse on him if he had done wrong.
Job examined himself closely as he suffered
with all the hardships that had come upon him.
Job made the list of his righteousness
yet he found no one to listen to him.
In America, the law says we are
“innocent until proven guilty”.
But when an accusation comes, doubt fills the minds
of others and you have to prove your innocents.
Job had made a list and he found nothing he had done wrong.
He presented it to God but he got no answer.
Job knew that the things that
had come upon him were not just.
He did not deserve them.
He knew there must be an accuser.
He cried out…
“Let my accuser put
his indictment in writing.”
Job was willing to bear any wrong he had
done and took full responsibility for it.
But Job was left to suffer with no answer.
God does not speak and the Accuser does not speak.
And His friends are sure Job had done some great wrong.
If you are a righteous person trying to live like Christ…

Now faith is what “being sure” that is confidence
“and certain” that is confidence.
If the accuser can shake your
confidence he has shaken your faith.
This is why Ephesians 6 tells us to take
a stand against the devil’s schemes.
Put on the full armor, you are at war to protect
your confidence, your faith in God and what is right.
And when you have examined your life and find no fault.
When it seems the hardships do not
let up even with prayer and fasting.
When you have no answer from heaven and your accuser
won’t prove why he has done these things to you.
Take a stand.
“Therefore put on the full armor of God,
so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have done
everything,
to stand. Stand firm
then,”
Don’t give up the rock of faith you stand on it will hold you.
Don’t get off the Rock.
Time is not the issues, but your faith is.
Scripture Reading
Job 31:35-37 NIV
35 ("Oh, that I had someone to hear me!
I sign now my defense — let the Almighty answer me;
let my accuser put his indictment in writing.
36 Surely I would wear it on my shoulder,
I would put it on like a crown.
37 I would give him an account of my every step;
like a prince I would approach him.)—
Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the
devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but
against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark
world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you
may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the
breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the
readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take
up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of
the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all
kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on
praying for all the saints.
