The Accuser Dealing With Your Anger at the Accuser

The Accuser
Dealing With Your Anger at the Accuser

If you have ever been falsely accused
If you have ever had an evil person try to destroy you
If you have seen 9/11 and been angry at those who plotted the attack
Or, those of ISIS and their evil acts
Then you need to read Psalms 109

God’s Word tells us “to be angry” “but sin not”.

David was angry in Psalms 109 with his accusers.

He did not say “hate the sin and love the sinner”.

Although Jesus on the cross said regarding
his accusers, “Father forgive them”.

Read Psalms 109 very carefully.

We should note at the beginning of the Palms
 David is talking to God.

David starts with praise to God.

Notice he feels that there is a season where
God is silent in his life, “do not remain silent”.

He laid out the injustice done to him,
 than he describes himself…

“But I am a man of prayer.
They repay me evil for good,
and hatred for my friendship.”

David, a man of prayer, good, and friendship.

Verses 6-20 is a list of punishments
 David asked the Lord in prayer
to bring upon his accusers.

It is these verses that might give us comfort
when we have grown weary of our accuser.

But caution should be taken…

 Anger can make you “bitter not better”.

And even thought David was the apple
of God’s eye, God did not allow him to
build a temple for the Lord because…

'You are not to build a house for my Name,
because you are a warrior and have shed blood.'
1 Chronicles 28:3 NIV

From verses 21-29 David asked for the
Lord’s help and loving kindness.

And in verses 30 and 31 he declared God’s greatness
and His faithfulness to never leave the side of the needy.

When your accuser comes to destroy you
and you have walked a righteous life…

*Be a person of prayer*
*Vent on God, and be careful of venting on others*

I have said things to God out of frustration and
anger that I am so glad no one else could hear
and God was able to handle what I said and me.

I have also said things to others that I had
wished I could take back because it caused
me to look bad and made my situation worse.

*Don’t forget God is a God of love
but also a God of vengeance*

“Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary:….
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:19-21 NIV

*Don’t forget you were bought with
a price you are not your own*

David could have taken the accuser’s attacks personally
but he remembered he had given himself to the Lord.

So it was not David’s name that was most important to defend.

He says…

“But you, O Sovereign Lord,
deal well with me for your name's sake;
out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.”

Finally, if we are going to take our case to God in prayer.

*Than let God take care of you*

Let God decided how He will deal with the accuser.

Let God get the glory whether He brings blessing
to you in good times or brings beauty out of ashes.

Scripture Reading

Psalm 109:1-5 NIV
 O God, whom I praise,
do not remain silent,
2 for wicked and deceitful men
have opened their mouths against me;
they have spoken against me with lying tongues.
3 With words of hatred they surround me;
they attack me without cause.
4 In return for my friendship they accuse me,
but I am a man of prayer.
5 They repay me evil for good,
and hatred for my friendship.

Psalm 109:21-110:1 NIV
21 But you, O Sovereign Lord,
deal well with me for your name's sake;
out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.
22 For I am poor and needy,
and my heart is wounded within me.
23 I fade away like an evening shadow;
I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees give way from fasting;
my body is thin and gaunt.
25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers;
when they see me, they shake their heads.

26 Help me, O Lord my God;
save me in accordance with your love.
27 Let them know that it is your hand,
that you, O Lord, have done it.
28 They may curse, but you will bless;
when they attack they will be put to shame,
but your servant will rejoice.
29 My accusers will be clothed with disgrace
and wrapped in shame as in a cloak.

30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the Lord;
in the great throng I will praise him.
31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy one,
to save his life from those who condemn him.
