Making the old look good at Christmas I am the Door

Making the old look good at Christmas
I am the Door

Christmas decorations are everywhere
But is the old lost in the new
Is the old door left out in the barn or have we put it on display
Jesus is the reason for the season
This old message is still the best message
“I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved”

Our church does a great job of decorating.

The volunteers and staff keep the facilities looking great.

Throughout the year the décor is always changing.

The creativity is amazing especially at Christmas.

The decorations were put up for Christmas, 2016.

As I came into the church for the Sunday morning
service all their hard work got my attention.

The place was beautiful, the creativity
was amazing and I was taking it all in.

One of the decorations had an old door,
the paint was cracked and peeling from age.

The door handle was made of ceramic with a little
paint on it and a hole below it for a skeleton key.

The hinge was fancy, but it too,
was covered with old cracked paint.

An old door in a new environment.

Over the door was a simple wreath with red bow.

A small Christmas tree surrounded by
burlap also covered the bottom of the door.

A wooden sign leaned against the door
that said JOY….PEACE….LOVE.

The old door never looked so good.

Who would have thought an old door would
find any value in a new and modern facility.

That door spoke to me in two ways…

The door made me feel good because
it was old like me and looked good.

Someone took the time to see
its value and put it on display.

As I was taking a picture of it one of the workers at the church
said she would like to charge for all the pictures taken,
I guess I was not alone when I pulled out my cell phone camera.

The old door also spoke to me of the old story of Christmas.

Almost 2000 years ago much older than the door…

The old story of Christmas the one that tells us of the Angels,
and shepherds, a virgin giving birth to the Son of God.

The Story of Emmanuel, how God came to be with us.

And how He became the door to eternal life.

  Christmas decoration are everywhere.

But is the old lost in the new?

Is the old door left out in the barn or have we put it on display?

Jesus is the reason for the season.

This old message is still the best message.

“I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved”

Scripture Reading

John 10:9-10 AMP

9 I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (will live). He will come in and he will go out [freely], and will find pasture.

10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
