The Accuser
Confidence
Isaiah’s self-confidence comes from a walk with God.
He says, “the Lord has
given me an instructed tongue”.
He clarifies this by saying he knows the words that sustain
the weary.
Isaiah shares when and how he got this confidence to speak.
He says…
He wakens me morning
by morning,
wakens my ear to
listen like one being taught.
The Sovereign Lord has
opened my ears
Isaiah starts each
day in God’s classroom.
Isaiah’s life is not praying each morning
for God to take care of his “To do list”.
Isaiah wakes up with a student’s mentality.
He awakes with the mindset of a disciple.
Confidence…we all need it.
A lack of confidence leaves us with worry and fear.
Confidence is “the
feeling or belief that one
can rely on something or someone, firm trust”.
It is also “a feeling of self-assurance arising from
one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities”.
When you have confidence you have trust,
belief, faith, credence, and conviction.
Isaiah shows confidence in Chapter 50.
Isaiah has self-confidence and confidence in the Lord.
It is very important for us to note Isaiah’s
self-confidence comes from a walk with God.
He says…
“the Lord has given me
an instructed tongue”.
He clarifies this by saying he knows
the words that sustain the weary.
Isaiah shares when and how he
got this confidence to speak.
He says…
He wakens me morning
by morning,
wakens my ear to
listen like one being taught.
The Sovereign Lord has
opened my ears
Isaiah starts each day in God’s classroom.
Isaiah’s life is not praying each morning
for God to take care of his “To do list”.
Isaiah wakes up with
a student mentality.
He awakes with the mindset of a disciple.
He has now been in the classroom for a long time.
We see the instruction each morning
is worked out throughout the day.
His first description of this instruction
being worked out in his life is very important.
He says…
I have not been
rebellious;
I have not drawn back.
Too often we get cocky or arrogant
when we think we have the answers.
The apostle Paul says if anyone
boast let him boast in the Lord.
Isaiah gives the
Sovereign Lord the credit
for opening his ears and instructing his tongue.
As Isaiah describes his words “I have not drawn back”
we can easily see a picture of the persecuted Christ.
Those who are disciples of Christ will suffer persecution.
Isaiah was not afraid to suffer for what he believed.
Even though he was rejected he says…
“the Sovereign Lord helps me,
I will not be disgraced.”
Certainly this would not be the view of his accusers.
It is so clear that Isaiah only cared
about what the Lord thought about him.
He is so confident the Lord is near him and
will vindicate him so he sets his face like flint.
He is ready like a warrior.
Who then will bring
charges against me?
Let us face each
other!
Who is my accuser?
Let him confront me!
It is clear to see lies and deception can hurt you.
Slander, gossip, false witness
can make life very miserable.
When we look at Christ we can see the accuser
was able to take His suffering to the point of death.
It is also true many disciple of
Christ also laid down their lives.
The accuser has power, deadly power.
But Isaiah, Jesus, the disciples of Lord
did not see death as the end.
Though the world condemned Jesus to
death God raised Him from the dead.
We need to be careful that we do not have
a short term view of the Lord’s help.
Many did not see the Lord’s help till they died.
Though their life was cut short what is the time
in this world compared to all eternity with Christ?
Has your walk with the Lord given you
confidence to confront your accuser?
Will you know what to
say?
Do you have an “instructed tongue?”
These words are not to encourage you to go pick a fight.
This message is to encourage us to walk
with the Lord each day as a disciple.
It is a message to speak the truth in love
and not be ashamed of Christ and His words.
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 50:4-9 NIV
4 The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue,
to know the word that sustains the weary.
He wakens me morning by morning,
wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.
5 The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears,
and I have not been rebellious;
I have not drawn back.
6 I offered my back to those who beat me,
my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;
I did not hide my face
from mocking and spitting.
7 Because the Sovereign Lord helps me,
I will not be disgraced.
Therefore have I set my face like flint,
and I know I will not be put to shame.
8 He who vindicates me is near.
Who then will bring charges against me?
Let us face each other!
Who is my accuser?
Let him confront me!
9 It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me.
Who is he that will condemn me?
They will all wear out like a garment;
the moths will eat them up.
