Knowledge What is on Your Lips?

Knowledge
What is on Your Lips?

Lips covered with honey are lips
that tell you what you want to hear

Rather than what you need to know

What’s on your Lips?

Lip stick is a big industry.

There are more colors, sparkles, shines
and even flavors than you can think of…

All made for making the lips stand out.

There are two types of lips in Proverbs 5.

The first is lips that “preserve knowledge”.

The second is a warning, lips “covered
with honey” and smooth speech.

Lips covered with seduction.

It is not just women whose lips are covered in honey.

Lips covered with honey are lips
that tell you what you want to hear.

Rather than what you need to know.

The father in Proverbs 5 says…

My son, pay attention to my wisdom,
listen well to my words of insight,
that you may maintain discretion
and your lips may preserve knowledge.

The lips that preserve knowledge…

“Pay Attention”, “Listen”.

There is an effort on our part to
obtain wisdom and words of insight.

We need the right teachers in our lives.

There is a third part to wisdom and insight
and without is everything falls apart…

“Maintain Discretion”

The word Discretion in Hebrew
comes from the word “a plan”.

You and I must maintain “a plan”
that will keep wisdom and insight.

You have heard…

“Viewer Discretion Advised”

Discretion in speech is more important than eloquence.

The lips covered in honey lack discretion.

There are many women who will call a man “honey”.

Calling a man “honey” is a form of flirting.

When a man hears that word it will get his attention.

The thing the man needs to remember
is she calls everyone honey.

When we tell people what they want to hear
instead of what they need to know we are flirting.

Flirting is a desire to get someone attention and like us.

The bases of the relationship is not on knowledge, but emotions.

You and I need to stick to the plan, “Discretion”.

Keep your emotions a servant.

True wisdom and insight will
keep your lips full of knowledge.

Don’t let the knowledge of the truth be compromised.

Don’t give in to the outward beauty
and miss the inward truth.

It is important to just avoid people with lips of honey.

Don’t let smooth sounding words get
you off the plan of wisdom and insight.

Remember let Discretion keep your lips full of knowledge.

Scripture Reading

Proverbs 5:1-14 NIV

5 My son, pay attention to my wisdom,
listen well to my words of insight,
2 that you may maintain discretion
and your lips may preserve knowledge.
3 For the lips of an adulteress drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil;
4 but in the end she is bitter as gall,
sharp as a double-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death;
her steps lead straight to the grave.
6 She gives no thought to the way of life;
her paths are crooked, but she knows it not.

7 Now then, my sons, listen to me;
do not turn aside from what I say.
8 Keep to a path far from her,
do not go near the door of her house,
9 lest you give your best strength to others
and your years to one who is cruel,
10 lest strangers feast on your wealth
and your toil enrich another man's house.
11 At the end of your life you will groan,
when your flesh and body are spent.
12 You will say, "How I hated discipline!
How my heart spurned correction!
13 I would not obey my teachers
or listen to my instructors.
14 I have come to the brink of utter ruin
in the midst of the whole assembly."
