Knowledge
The Intellectual Idiot
Knowledge, “Input”
Short Circuit is a film from
1986 about a robot, Number 5.
Number 5 is part of a series of prototype U.S. military
S.A.I.N.T.
(Strategic Artificially Intelligent Nuclear Transport)
robots built for the Cold War by
NOVA Laboratories.
Number 5 is hit by a lightning-induced power surge,
scrambling its programming and giving it a sense of free will.
Number 5 has a hunger for “input”,
books, television, and other stimuli.
Number 5 later renames himself Johnny 5.
I am sure you have met many Johnny 5’s,
people hungry for “input”.
I once met a man who studied religions.
His knowledge was incredible.
I remember his first words to
me as we were introduced…
“To get to know me I will
offend you in the first 5 minutes.”
He was obnoxious with his knowledge.
He had quote after quote and every one of them was
aimed to attack anything and everything I believed.
There was no way I could talk to him on his level,
I did not read the books he read or
studied all the things in detail as he did.
I realized the problem was not his
knowledge it was his ego and arrogance.
I realized all his intellectual knowledge, the decades
of “input” made him a non-believer in anything.
He embraced all religions but
was not sure there was a God.
To argue with this man would only
feed his ego and make me look stupid.
I told him I would not argue about God.
I said, I too, am a man of study and I
prove the things I accept into my life.
For me the evidence is clear it is not
just facts with me it is experience.
I have found the God of the Bible
to be true and that God loves me.
I told him I would not argue
with him about what I love.
My knowledge has brought me into a relationship…
An experience of love.
It was amazing this man was stopped in his tracks
he realized all of his “Input” has left him empty.
He admired what I had even though I did not
have as much “input” on world religions as he did.
Later I got a couple of calls from
people very close to this person.
They thanked me for talking to this man and
told me no one has ever been able to reach him.
The Bible says knowledge puffs up.
There are those who are intellectual idiots.
They have tons of “input” but they
don’t know what to do with it.
That day that man saw my
information was working in my life…
Hope, peace, love and conviction.
Like I would not argue about the loving relationship
my wife and I have, I would not argue about the
loving relationship I have with my God.
My knowledge is not words in a books,
it is not quotes from someone else.
It is reality in my life.
Which I love to talk about but never argue.
Pride makes intellectuals idiots.
Ask yourself the question what good
is knowledge without experience.
How does your knowledge play out in your life?
Scripture Reading
Ecclesiastes 12:8-13 NIV
8 "Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher.
"Everything is meaningless!"
9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted
knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many
proverbs. 10 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he
wrote was upright and true.
11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected
sayings like firmly embedded nails — given by one Shepherd. 12 Be warned, my
son, of anything in addition to them.
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies
the body.
13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole [duty] of man.
1 Corinthians 8:1 AMP
1 NOW ABOUT food offered to idols: of course we know that
all of us possess knowledge [concerning these matters. Yet mere] knowledge
causes people to be puffed up (to bear themselves loftily and be proud), but
love (affection and goodwill and benevolence) edifies and builds up and
encourages one to grow [to his full stature].
