Knowledge “They Know Not What They Do”

Knowledge
“They Know Not What They Do”

The cost of not knowing what you are doing.

I was watching the news and a
mother was asking for forgiveness.

The night before she was standing up for her daughter
but after seeing a video, realized her daughter was wrong.

How many times we act on false
information or a lack of information.

How often we jump to conclusions before we get all the facts.

That is the scene at the cross.

Jesus looking down on the Soldiers who beat Him
and put a crown of thrones on His head mocking Him.

See them casting lots for His clothing.

On each side of Him were thieves reviling Him.

The religious leaders mocked Him.

The mob, crowd was blaspheming.

Jesus looked down on the most unworthy lot and said…

“Father, forgive them.”

How could Jesus do this?

Why would He do this?

Even in His personal agony, Jesus
recognized the reason for their actions.

Jesus gave this reason to the Father
when He asked for their forgiveness.

Jesus said…

“They know not what they do.”

“They know not” …They were not aware, did not consider,
did not perceive, did not see, were not sure, did not understand…

Jesus forgave the soldiers who were carrying out their
orders like they would for any condemned person.

He forgave the thieves and one of them repented.

He forgave the religious leaders who
chose tradition over knowing the truth.

Jesus forgave the angry jeering mob who
had been deceived by the Sadducees.

The infinite love and mercy of Christ
recognized the problem of a lack of knowledge.

Jesus shows great mercy for the ignorance
of those who crucified Him on the cross.

The Apostle Paul tells us after the resurrection of Jesus…

“In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead." Acts 17:30-31 NIV

Our ignorance needs to be repented from.

We are held accountable to know the truth
and be set free (live a life of freedom).

The resurrection of Jesus Christ must be looked at seriously.

And if you look at the resurrection of Christ seriously
you will realize the need to grow in the knowledge of God.

Lack of knowledge took Jesus to the cross but it was His
willingness to pay for our ignorance that He laid down His life.

Ignorance never leads to life.

Ignorance causes pain and death to us and others.

Only the knowledge of the truth brings life to us and others.

This knowledge of truth starts with
knowing Jesus arose from the dead.

Once you know this you will want to know everything else He said…

“None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they
would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:
"No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him"—
but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” 1 Cor 2:8-11 NIV

Don’t live in ignorance.

Wake up excited every day asking
God to open your understanding.

Read His Word daily and repent of your ignorance.

Scripture Reading NIV

Luke 23:34
34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for
they do not know what they are doing."

1 Corinthians 2:4-16
4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.

6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written:

"No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him"—

10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.  14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:

16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord
that he may instruct him?"

But we have the mind of Christ.
