Marriage
In a Perfect World
This happens if we remember it is
God who joins them together.
Most of us grew up with fairy tales and
in our minds we dreamed of living happily
ever after with the spouse of our dreams.
The imperfections of life have brought
great disappointment to so many that a cynical
and critical spirit now replaces the heart of joy.
This is not the way God intended it to be.
When God designed marriage,
He designed it in a
perfect world.
God, the Father, picked the bride
and brought her to the man.
There was no mistake, there was only
one choice and God made it for them.
To get marriage back to the perfect world,
we must recognize
that whatever God has
joined together no one
should separate.
Whether looking for a spouse
or you have a spouse,
the closer two people
get to God
the closer they will get to each other.
Another interesting thing in the perfect
world of Eden, God blessed the couple.
This blessing reminds me of 2 Peter 1:3…
“His divine power has
given us everything
we need for life and
godliness” NIV
Every prevision for life was found in what God
had created, the couple just had to go out and get it.
Everything for godliness.
God took a walk in
the cool of the
day looking for Adam and Eve.
At the end of each day,
God was there to help them.
We still find this advice to walk with
God each evening in Ephesians 4:26-27.
“Do not let the sun go
down while you are still angry,
and do not give the
devil a foothold.” NIV
The perfect marriage is to be a growing marriage.
"Be fruitful and
increase in number; fill
the earth and subdue
it. Rule…” Genesis 1:28 NIV
When a person falls in love, they feel
like they are on top of the world.
God wants that feeling to be a reality.
“So God created man in
his own image,
in the image of God he
created him;
male and female he
created them.”
Genesis 1:27
NIV
Marriage was to recreate the image
of God in our children; in our family.
Because of sin, the bride and the groom
were removed from the perfect world.
But it is not hopeless.
Every purpose and provision God
had for marriage is
still available.
A couple should not expect perfection
from each other; that belongs solely to God.
The married couple needs not
minimize each other's weaknesses,
but always be swift to praise
and magnify each other's points of comeliness
and strength, and see each
other through kind and patient eyes.
Maybe living happily ever after is possible
for those who draw near to God.
Scripture Reading
NIV
Genesis 1:27-28
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and
increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea
and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the
ground."
2 Peter 1:3-9
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life
and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and
goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises,
so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the
corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your
faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control;
and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to
godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you
possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being
ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But
if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten
that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
Ephesians 4:26-27
"In your anger do not sin":
Do not let the sun go
down while you are still angry,
27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
