Marriage in an Imperfect World
If you are married, or been married, you would
probably say there were times you spent
together that you felt everything was perfect.
You felt loved, satisfied,
complete, confident, and secure.
Maybe it was on the honeymoon or a
vacation or a quiet evening after work.
The world’s problems were the
farthest thing from your mind.
That is the way we end Genesis 2.
“The man and his wife were both
naked, and they felt no shame.”
The beauty of the garden all
around them with “no shame”.
No disappointment.
Perfect in spirit, soul and
body in a perfect
world.
This is where we are at the end of Genesis 2
and in the first verse of Genesis 3 we discover
the one thing that turns off the perfect world.
This is the key…
This is the one thing
that destroys the
perfect marriage and the perfect world.
Might I stress “ONE THING” all the imperfect
things in life stem
from this “One Thing”.
The One Thing is a question…
“DID GOD SAY?”
God who spoke everything into
existence created everything perfect.
His design cannot be improved upon.
His Words are instruction, and guidance
from the One who created all things perfect.
When we move from “What
did God say?” to
“Did God say?” the
perfect world, the perfect
life, the perfect marriage becomes imperfect.
Questioning God’s Word…
Ignoring God’s Word…
That will turn off the lights to a perfect world.
You want a perfect life, marriage,
world be passionate about God’s Word.
After Adam and Eve acted on “their better way
of doing things” we see two major problems.
The first is the fellowship they
had with God was broken.
Not on God’s part but on man’s.
As God looked for them in the cool of the day…
He ask, "Where
are you?"
"I heard you in
the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked;
so I hid." And he
said, "Who told you that you were naked?
Have you eaten from
the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
The first signs fear and shame are now introduced.
Let’s keep it simple, go back to the beginning.
“Man shall not life by
bread alone BUT by
EVERY WORD that
come from the mouth of God.”
Activate the Word of God in your marriage, life, world.
Let’s get back to perfection and feel no shame.
Scripture Reading
Genesis 2:25-3:11 NIV
25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no
shame.
3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild
animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say,
'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from
the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the
tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you
will die.'"
4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to
the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be
opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for
food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took
some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he
ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they
were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God
as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the
Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man,
"Where are you?"
10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was
afraid because I was naked; so I hid."
11 And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have
you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
