I John The Anointing

I John
The Anointing

Like the perfumes you put on in the morning wear off

So does the anointing of the Spirit

That is why Ephesians 5:18 says
 “Be filled with the Spirit”

What Fragrance are you wearing?

Enough cannot be said about the Anointing.

Shepherds would pour oil on their
sheep to keep insects off of them.

Aaron when becoming priest had oil poured
over his head which covered his whole body.

Special blends of oils and spices were
used to hold articles in the temple.

Oils and spices were blended
to give a pleasant fragrance.

The lovers of Song of Solomon were attracted
to each other by their anointing fragrances.

The word Anoint is “Chrisma”;
it gives the character.

Oil was used to make the skin soft and healthy.

The sick were anointed with oil.

Oils are very popular today
and can be very expensive.

From these and many other examples,
we can begin to get a picture of
the Anointing on the believer.

The anointing of the believer is the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said the Spirit of the Lord
is upon me to anoint me to …

Jesus said to the Disciples wait in Jerusalem
till the Holy Spirit comes upon you.

This anointing changed their
lives and the lives of the world.

John tells us the anointing is from the Holy One.

God puts the oil of the Holy Spirit on us.

Its fragrance is a fragrance of truth.

Note that this truth is from the beginning.

Throughout time people tried
to change the fragrance.

They want to add or take away
from the fragrance of truth.

This is done by cultural change
keeping in step with the times.

When the truth is compromised it becomes like
toxic oils that make you sick maybe not right
away but over time turn into things like cancer.

The Anointing is recognizable.

John says it is not only on you but in you.

The anointing of the Holy Spirit
teaches you about all things.

The Holy Spirit teaches you to recognize
the smell of truth and the smell of a lie.

You will be able to recognize the
truth from a lie with your eyes closed.

You will become a fragrance
and smell just like Christ.

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.” 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 NIV

If you are a lover of Christ you will want
the anointing oil of the Holy Spirit…

Covering you from the top of
your head to the soles of your feet.

You will also want the oils within you.

The anointing will draw your lover
closer to you and give you a healthy life.

Like the perfume you put on in the morning
wear off, so does the anointing of the Spirit.

That is why Ephesians 5:18 says…

“Be filled with the Spirit.”

The same anointing that was
on Jesus is to be on you and I.

That anointing gave Him power
to destroy evil and do miracles.

Scripture Reading

1 John 2:20-3:1 NIV

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.   21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist — he denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

24 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us — even eternal life.

26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit — just as it has taught you, remain in him.

28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.

29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
