1 John
“This is the testimony”
“God has given us eternal life”1 John 5:11
“Anyone who believes in the Son
of God has this testimony in his heart”1 John 5:10
Testimonies…
We base most of our
life on the things others tell us.
The younger we are the more we have
to rely on the testimonies of others.
As we get older and experience more of life,
we realize how little
we know.
There are first hand testimonies and second hand.
Some stories have
been passed on through many generations.
Testimonies come from what was seen and heard and
is always shared with the perspective of that person.
When Crystal ordered the dresses for her
bridemaids, she ordered a navy blue.
All the dresses came from the same place, but all
the dresses were a very different shade of navy blue.
Most of the dresses
did not matched the ribbon
she bought for the dresses and decorations.
Testimonies are very important to us.
We spend a lot of money and time going to
places others told us were so wonderful.
In a court of law, a good judge’s first
concern is, is the witness creditable.
John says we have a testimony.
The testimony that “God
has given us eternal life”.
John says…
“Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart.”
John’s testimony was first hand.
He spoke of what he
saw.
As important as man’s testimony is, John says…
“We accept man's
testimony, but God's testimony is greater because
it is the testimony of
God, which he has given about his Son.”
God’s testimony about His Son.
There are many claims to be God.
We must be sure God is a creditable wittiness.
John says there are 3 things that give us credability to
“God has given us
eternal life”.
Jesus, the Son of God, came by water, blood and spirit.
There is a lot we could say about these three.
I am not sure of everything John wanted to
communicate to us concerning the three things.
But to prove the testimony, we should look at the cross.
As Jesus hung on the cross in human flesh,
a spear was thrust
into has side.
From that wound, came water and blood…
Life’s existence, the
spirit left Him.
Jesus died.
What is considered the end of life, death.
There are tombs around the world of those
who thought they would live forever.
But only one tomb that is empty.
God raised Jesus from the dead.
For most of us, we have heard this a thousand times.
But the fact is there is no greater proof of eternal life
than
God raised Jesus from the dead and He lives today.
It is this testimony that makes everything else God said
creditable.
It is this testimony we must believe
and have in our heart.
Scripture Reading
1 John 5:6-12 NIV
6 This is the one who came by water and blood — Jesus
Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the
Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three
that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in
agreement. 9 We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because
it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10 Anyone who
believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not
believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the
testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has
given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has
life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
