1 John Love? What is it? Where does it come from?

1 John

Love?

What is it?

Where does it come from?

“Dear friends, let us love one another,
 for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
Whoever does not love does not know God,
because God is love.”

1 John 4:7, 8

Science
The intellectual and practical activity encompassing
the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the
physical and natural world through observation and experiment.”

Science looks for the mathematical order and laws that form structure.
When you think of science,
one name might come to mind Isaac Newton.

Most of us when we think of Newton, think of the apple.

Isaac saw more than the physical apple,
he discovered the laws of motion and gravity.

Science in its attempts to explain the mechanical order
and laws of structure must answer two basic questions.

What is it?

And where does it come from?

John gives us the scientific solution to Love.

“Love comes from God” 1 John 4:7

The physical expression and the
emotion of love starts with God.

Every ability we have to love and
receive love came from God.

If you were to ask the question…

 What is love?

You would get hundreds of answers.
John also gives us this answer…

“God is love” 1 John 4:8

God is the scientific explanation to the laws
of structure and mechanical order of love.

Knowing God and knowing love are synonymous.

If what you call love does not line up
with who God is,  it is not true love.

And

“Whoever does not love does not know
God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8

Like God, you cannot see love, but
you can see the demonstration of love.

We were in the beginning created in the image of God.

The DNA of love was in us
and, therefore, God was in us.

When we moved away from
love, we became incomplete.

We had to be reminded of what real love is.

Therefore, God sent His Son into
the world to die for our sins.

His demonstration of love was towards
those who rejected Him and His love.

God’s love came to make us complete in love again.

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” 1 John 4:11, 12

John tells us to get back to what love is
and where it comes from…

So we can love one another.

Scripture Reading

1 John 4:7-17 NIV

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

13 We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
