The Million Dollar Life
William M. Self, Sr.
True wealth can
not be measured in a bubble
True wealth is
measured with wisdom
And it
increases in value as bubbles pop
Rags to Riches
2008 and the collapse of the U.S. market
wiped out many
Americans.
Many businesses and homes went into foreclosure.
We seem to get caught in bubbles.
The “dot.com” and
the “housing”
bubbles gave wealth
to many.
It was a wonderful ride up,
then the bubble popped.
Many went from rags to riches
and back to rags again.
I have studied the financial markets and
been at the world money shows.
I have listened and talked to the financial gurus.
There will always be bears
and always be bulls…
Arguing over the direction of the markets.
Both will be right and both will be wrong at times…
But neither side has all the answers.
Riches are uncertain.
The Bible tells us to be careful how we look at them…
Because at a glance, riches
can be gone.
There is some great advice Proverbs 23 gives us…
Don’t wear yourself
out trying to get rich;
have the wisdom to
show restraint”.
With wisdom, we will work
smarter not harder.
We will take time to smell the
flowers and enjoy the journey.
The destination, like the pot of gold
at the end of a rainbow, may not be
there or it may pop like a bubble.
But those who focus on gaining wisdom over
riches will not be
poor when the bubbles pop.
Don’t spend your time
staring at wealth…
Because at a glance it is gone.
Those who have wisdom always
recover from popping
bubbles.
And there are always flowers
on their journey of life.
Wisdom is the road to recovery.
Scripture Reading
Ephesians
1:18-19 NIV
I pray also
that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order
that you may know the hope to which he has
called you,
the riches
of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
19 and his incomparably great power for us who
believe.
Proverbs
23:4-5 NIV
Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
have the
wisdom to show restraint.
5 Cast but a
glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they
will surely sprout wings
and fly off
to the sky like an eagle.
Psalm 1:1-3 NIV
1 Blessed is
the man
who does not
walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in
the way of sinners
or sit in
the seat of mockers.
2 But his
delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his
law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like
a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields
its fruit in season
and whose
leaf does not wither.
Whatever he
does prospers.
