The Gold Standard
By William M. Self, Sr.
At the end of your life
Will your wealth be counted as
FOOL’S GOLD
Mark Twain said… “It’s
easier to fool people
than to convince them they have been fooled”.
As a boy, I used to collect rocks.
One of my favorites
was Pyrite.
Pyrite sparkles with a golden look.
They call it fool’s
gold.
In my little boy’s mind, I never believed I
would have real gold, so I would collect
fool’s gold and
dream of being rich.
My son and I come across
jewelry in a hobby we have.
So much of it looks like gold,
but when we get out the
magnet, most of it
sticks.
They call it costume jewelry…
Dress up and feel rich.
Fool’s gold is everywhere
and anyone can get it.
Fool’s gold can
look good
and make you feel good.
Because the cost of real gold, many of
us become satisfied with fool’s
gold.
God tells us to test our gold.
Many of us go through life
thinking we are rich.
We are fooled by the sparkle
and the brilliant color.
We look good and feel good.
But we are fooled.
The test of our gold will not be
done with a magnet or
acid.
God’s test measures what we did with our gold.
Real gold will always produce righteousness.
Real gold will reward labors.
Real gold will be spent for
the things of eternal value.
Don’t be a fool for fool’s
gold.
Scripture Reading
Ephesians
1:18-19 NIV
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be
enlightened in order
that you may know the hope to which he has
called you,
the riches of his glorious inheritance in the
saints,
19 and his
incomparably great power for us who believe.
James 5:3 NIV
Your gold
and silver are corroded.
Their
corrosion will testify against you
and eat your flesh like fire.
You have
hoarded wealth in the last days.
