The Gold Standard
By William M. Self, Sr.
Our shame can only be covered by
Putting on righteousness
Buying with Gold
I was in the bank the other day and had a lot
of change I wanted to convert into larger bills.
The teller noticed a Canadian nickel and
said we cannot accept Canadian money.
Although the US Dollar is accepted in many
countries, most of the time foreign currency has to
be exchanged before you can shop in another country.
One of the most popular things to shop for is clothes.
There are two things God says you can purchase from Him…
But you have to first exchange for or buy His Gold.
With His gold you can buy clothes.
You cannot shop anywhere and buy these
beautiful white garments except from God.
These garments cover shame.
Shame is guilt and embarrassment.
Shame is thought to come from
an older word meaning to
cover.
I believe when God made Adam and Eve
He made them with perfect bodies.
I don’t think there has been a man or a
woman with a more
perfect body since.
Yet, when they sinned by disobedience
to God’s Word, the Bible says…
Their eyes were opened and they realized
their nakedness and
covered themselves.
Shame plays a powerful role in our lives…
It makes us want to
hide or cover up.
One of the most deceitful cover ups is denial…
To act as if there is nothing wrong when there really is.
God has made a way for those of us who
see the truth and feel ashamed to be covered.
The only color clothes God sells is white.
Each garment is washed in the blood of Jesus.
White stands for righteousness.
Every day you and I make decisions on what to wear
based upon what we are doing and where we are going.
In the same way we need to buy…
Pay the price to put
on the right thing.
How much attention am I giving each day to wearing the right
clothes?
How much attention do you and I give to putting on Righteousness?
When you put on white clothes, you must be very
careful with your actions so you don’t get them dirty.
If your shame is showing, cover it with righteousness.
Scripture Reading
Revelation
3:15-18 NIV
15 I know
your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or
the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about
to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and
do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful,
poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the
fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your
shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
Genesis
3:6-7 NIV
6 When the
woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye,
and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave
some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both
of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig
leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
