The Sermon on the Mountainside Come to the Mountainside

The Sermon on the Mountainside
Come to the Mountainside

Where is the mountainside Jesus gave His sermon on?
It is found in Matthew chapter 5
That is its location
We are not given a physical location other than it was in Galilee
The mountainside Jesus is teaching from
Is the mountain you and I face to be happy and blessed
Be a listener, Jesus is about to speak, to teach you
And I how to be blessed and happy
Looking at his disciples, he said:
"Blessed…” Luke 6:20

Come to the Mountainside

Where is the mountainside
Jesus gave His sermon on?

It is found in Matthew chapter 5.

That is its location.

You will have to imagine a mountain
because the scriptures do not give us a
physical location other than it was in Galilee.

We also find this sermon in Luke 6.

Here we see in Verse 12, Jesus went out to a
mountainside where He spent the night in prayer.

Verse 17 tells us…

 He went down with them
and stood on a level place.”

A large crowd came to hear
Him and receive miracles.

Maybe the mountain is not the physical place…

But to help us, think of another mountain where
Moses brought the Law of God to the people.

Luke, in the first 10 verses of Luke 6,
reveals struggles Jesus had with legalism,
the Law or letter of the law that kills
and the Spirit that gives life.

What brought the crowd to the
Mountain is found in Matthew 4:23-25…

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

Luke 6:17-19…

A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.

Moses’ Sermon to the people was…

See, I am setting before you
today a blessing and a curse
Deuteronomy 11:26

Jesus follows the same pattern in His Sermon.

To be blessed is to be happy,
to be well off, fortunate.

We must realize nothing is one-sided.

A coin has two sides.

The earth has two sides, one side
has light and the other darkness.

The issue is which side
are you positioned on?

So the difference between
blessing and curse is a choice.

To make good choices you
have to be well informed.

We need to realize Jesus did heal the sick.

He did do miracles to bless the people…

But He also taught us so we would be
informed to make right decisions, so
we could bring blessing upon our lives.

As you prepare to sit at the mountainside…

Don’t sit there waiting for the sermon to be over
and the altar call for healing to be announced.

Don’t be like the Pharisees and Sadducees
who were comfortable with formulas of the law.

The mountainside Jesus is teaching from is…

The mountain you and I face
to be happy and blessed.

Be a listener.

Jesus is about to speak, to teach you
and I how to be blessed and happy.

Looking at his disciples, he said:
"Blessed…”
Luke 6:20

Scripture Reading

Matthew 4:23-5:3
23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

Matthew 5 NIV
5:1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them, saying:

3 "Blessed

Luke 6:12-20 NIV
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.

20 Looking at his disciples, he said:

"Blessed
