You Prepare a Table Before Me
A person who prepares
a table is a servant
The Good Shepherd
sets the table
You prepare a table
before me
in the presence of my
enemies.
Song
of Solomon paints this picture for us in his love affair story
4 He has taken me to the banquet hall,
and his banner over me
is love.
5 Strengthen me with
raisins,
refresh me with
apples,
for I am faint with
love.
Song of Solomon 2
There are two amazing things our enemies witness as they surround the
table
One is our Lover’s
provision and how He serves us
The other is our appreciation
for everything our Lover does
Our enemies need to
see we are grateful in everything
And for everything
our Lover does for us
Don’t let the enemies
distract you from the Banqueting Table
Your Lover has
provided for you
You prepare a table
before me
You Prepare a Table
Before Me
A person who prepares a table is a servant.
The Good Shepherd sets the table.
Verse 2 of Psalms 23 gives
us a picture of green pastures.
The table is set as we walk in the
Valley of the Shadow of Death.
Song of Solomon paints this picture
for us in his love affair story.
I am a rose of Sharon,
a lily of the valleys.
2 Like a lily among
thorns
is my darling among
the maidens.
3 Like an apple tree
among the trees of the forest
is my lover among the
young men.
I delight to sit in
his shade,
and his fruit is sweet
to my taste.
4 He has taken me to
the banquet hall,
and his banner over me
is love.
5 Strengthen me with
raisins,
refresh me with
apples,
for I am faint with
love.
6 His left arm is
under my head,
and his right arm
embraces me.
Song of
Solomon 2:1-6
In the Valley is a Rose, a Lily.
A Lily among thorns.
Jesus was hated by the world.
He says…
"If the world
hates you,
keep in mind that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the
world,
it would love you as its own.
As it is, you do not
belong to the world,
but I have chosen you
out of the world.
That is why the world
hates you.
John 15:18-20
Although the world hated Jesus and
will hate those who belong to Him,
Jesus loved His
enemies…
"You have heard
that it was said,
'Love your neighbor
and hate your enemy.'
But I tell you: Love your enemies and
pray for those who
persecute you.
Matthew 5:43-45
Solomon paints a picture of our Lover…
The Lily among the thorns.
The Lily set a table for His beloved.
He has taken me to the
banquet hall,
and his banner over me
is love.
Notice the Lover is the flowers
on the table, apples, the shade,
the sweet fruit, and the raisins.
Sitting at the table you are not faint from
the thorns and the Shadow of Death…
You are faint with love.
Surrounding the table is
the presence of the enemies.
But we are not afraid of man…
In my anguish I cried
to the LORD,
and he answered by
setting me free.
The LORD is with me; I
will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
The LORD is with me;
he is my helper.
I will look in triumph
on my enemies.
Psalms
118:5-7
The loved sitting at the table is grateful
for everything the Lover has done.
When you and I sit at the table to eat, we
thank the Lord for the food He has provided.
Examples…
Matthew 14:19
Acts 27:35
Matthew 26:26-29
Colossians 3:17
There are two amazing things
our enemies witness as they
surround the table we eat at.
One is our Lover’s provision
and how He serves us.
The other is our appreciation
for everything our Lover does.
Our enemies need to see we are grateful…
In everything and for
everything
our Lover does for us.
Don’t let the enemies distract you
from the Banqueting Table your
Lover has provided for you.
Scripture Reading
Psalms 23:1-24:1 NIV
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
