Social Distancing He Leads Me Beside Quiet Waters

Social Distancing
He Leads Me Beside Quiet Waters

This time of isolating from one another
Has been a great time to refocus on the Chief Shepherd Jesus Christ
A time to get reacquainted with His voice
To hear His command to lie down and rest when the world is in turmoil
A time to be lead along the dangerous rivers and the polluted waters to still waters
Don’t stop wherever you see water
God knows your needs and will lead you to still waters, healthy waters
The key is knowing the Good Shepherd
Trusting Him for your wants and needs
Submitted to His command to rest and allowing Him to lead to the Waters of Life
Allow this time of separating to be a time of drawing close to the Good Shepherd
And you will not be in want.

He Leads Me Beside Quiet Waters

Psalms 23 verse 2 says…

He makes me lie down in green pastures

This sounds like a great place to stay
but sheep need to move for many reasons.

So as the Lord makes us
lie down, He also leads us…

He leads me beside quiet waters

Clean, fresh water is a daily
necessity for sheep and lambs.

Sheep will consume anywhere from ½
to 5 gallons of water per day,
depending upon their physiological state,
the content of water in their feed,
and environmental conditions.

Requirements increase greatly
during late gestation and lactation.

Water is important,
but not just any water.

If left alone, sheep will drink whatever water
they stumble upon, even if it is stagnant,
filthy and unfit to drink.

Mark 6:34 says that Jesus had
compassion on the people because…

“They were like sheep without a shepherd.”

There is a lot of water that is not safe to drink.

There are rivers and deep waters not safe to cross.

The Social Distancing has separated the sheep.

It has separated us from other
believers and from our local shepherds.

Psalms 23 reminds us…

The Lord is our Shepherd,
I shall not be in want

Because of God’s Spirit living in the
believer, we can rest assured that even in
the pandemic, the Lord has never left us.

Recognizing our need to lie down
and our need to be lead is important.

Sheep have a strong instinct to
follow the sheep in front of them.

When one sheep decides to go somewhere,
the rest of the flock usually follows,
even if it is not a good "decision".

Sheep have a strong flocking instinct.

The flock is very important.

 But a dominate sheep, especially
rams, can lead the flock into danger.

Turkish shepherds watched in horror
as hundreds of their sheep followed
each other over a cliff in 2005.

Over 400 sheep died following one after another.

This time of isolating from one another
has been a great time to refocus
on the Chief Shepherd Jesus Christ.

A time to get reacquainted with His voice.

To hear His command to lie down and
rest when the world is in turmoil.

A time to be lead along the dangerous rivers
and the polluted waters to still waters.

Don’t stop wherever you see water.

God knows your needs and will lead
you to still waters, healthy waters.

The key is knowing the Good Shepherd.

Trusting Him for your wants and needs.

Submitted to His command to rest and
allowing Him to lead to the Waters of Life.

Allow this time of separating to be a time
of drawing close to the Good Shepherd
and you will not be in want.

Scripture Reading

Psalms 23:1-24:1 NIV

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
