I Shall Not Want
You and I can’t
afford the upkeep
We can’t afford all
our wants
I want the Lord to be
my Shepherd
I want Him to lead me
and fulfill all my needs and wants
If your wants are
getting in the way of your peace
Cast all your cares
on Him because He cares for you
Let Him lead you
Rest in His love and
protection
Let’s let Jesus take
care of the maintenance in our life
So we can go rest on
the beach
Who knows may be the
Lord will take you for a walk on the water
I Shall Not Want
The Corona virus has
taken so much from all of us.
There are things we use to have and now
we want simple things like toilet paper.
You and I are full of things we want.
We may not act like the little child in
the store, who from the shopping cart
is crying out for everything he sees.
But we still have wants.
We can have wants
but not be in want.
Psalms 23 in the
King James Version says…
“I shall not want”
The NIV says…
“I shall not be in want”
The word “want” means to fail, be abated,
bereaved, decrease, have lack, to want
David says because
the Lord is my Shepherd
I shall not want or be in want.
It is the Shepherd that
makes the difference.
It is the Shepherd that fulfills the
longing, the desire, the want in his life.
Sandy and I are looking
at life in our 70’s and 80’s.
We are trying to get prepared.
We have been trying to
figure out what we want.
I want to be with my family in Ohio,
but when I think of
the verse…
“He leads me besides still waters”
I do not think of ice.
I enjoy watching Caribbean Life on TV.
It is about people looking for
a home on a Caribbean Island.
I have never been a person who
liked living close to my neighbors.
I never liked the idea of paying HOA fees.
I have always liked living where I don’t
have to worry about
my neighbors
complaining about the way I live…
Or, not being allowed
to have extra cars
in the drive or a boat in my back yard.
But watching the Caribbean Life TV show,
I have opened my mind
to the idea of a condo.
A new or newer home surrounded
by well-maintained landscape, a
pool I did not have to take care
of, and no maintenance.
Do I want to give up my control
and freedom to live
in a beautiful
environment where I have no want?
The older I get the more I seem
to entertain the idea of living a life
where I turn my wants over to an HOA.
Some people on the Caribbean Life
show choose houses that need fixing up.
As much as I enjoy building, remodeling
and doing things myself,
I want to enjoy life with less work.
I want to have time to go to the pool,
go fishing, go out with friends.
I can understand why it may be
difficult making the Lord our Shepherd…
To make Him our HOA.
Our Shepherd will require
certain things from us.
To make Him our HOA…
It will cost us.
But look at your needs
for life they are taken care of.
He can manage your life because
He can supply all your needs
according to His riches in Glory.
If a hurricane comes…
You can let God worry
about how
to clean up and repair the property.
I don’t have the money to
live where and how I want.
Yet, I can make Jesus my
Shepherd and not be wanting.
I can find rest for my soul,
no matter what the climate.
You and I can’t afford the upkeep.
We can’t afford all our wants.
I want the Lord to be my Shepherd.
I want Him to lead me and
fulfill all my needs and wants.
If your wants are getting
in the way of your peace…
Cast all your cares on Him
because He cares for you.
Let Him lead you.
Rest in His love and protection.
Let’s let Jesus take care of
the maintenance in our life…
So we can go rest on the beach.
Who knows…
Maybe the Lord will
take
you for a walk on the water.
Scripture Reading
Psalms 23:1-5 NIV
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
