Corvid-19
When the Numbers Don’t Add Up
I am a numbers guy
I look at numbers
every day in order to make decisions
Some people make
decisions on feelings, my decisions are made by numbers
As I have followed
the Coronavirus I have been watching the numbers
And the numbers don’t
add up
So what do we do when
the numbers don’t add up?
David says in Psalms
25
The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish.
David
in the end hangs on to two things as he puts his hope in God
May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in you. Verse 21
Integrity
and Uprightness
When
the numbers in your life do not add up
Put
your hope in God, He is greater than all the numbers
Second,
realize your life with never add up without Integrity and Uprightness
When the Numbers
Don’t Add Up
I am a numbers guy.
I look at numbers every day
in order to make decisions.
Some people make decisions on feelings,
my decisions are made by numbers.
As I have followed the Coronavirus
I have been watching the numbers.
on my computer and check it daily to
see the numbers
around the world.
I have been listening to all the
numbers given by the experts.
There are actual numbers,
there are estimated numbers, and
there are the bios guesstimate numbers.
When all is said and done
the numbers don’t add up.
I am used to working with numbers under six figures…
But with the
Coronavirus and the government
stimulus numbers, I
am lost in an ocean
of numbers beyond my pay grade.
So what do you do when the
numbers don’t add up in your life?
When you are looking at
2+2 and it doesn’t add up to 4.
What do you do when reality doesn’t seem real?
If
the numbers don't add up…
It means the total number doesn't make
sense in relation to the separate
amounts.
Generally, one of the individual
numbers
must be wrong.
But as we have seen there are many
numbers that have been wrong.
Trust and expectation cannot be realized
when the numbers do not add up.
Time and time again we find examples in
the
Bible of stories when the numbers did not
add up.
Remember Gideon started out with 42,000
fighting men and God says that is too
many
and reduced the number to 300.
Why?
The LORD said to Gideon…
"You
have too many men for me to deliver
Midian
into their hands. In order
that
Israel may not boast against me
that her own strength has saved her.
Judges 7:1-3
Numbers are important…
But
no number is greater than our God.
When the numbers become overwhelming
or don’t add up, remember God is greater.
David in Psalms 25 says…
The troubles of my
heart have multiplied;
free me from my
anguish.
Verse 17
Numbers troubled David’s heart.
What was going on inside of him did not
add up.
He also realized the numbers externally
did not add up.
David saw the enemies within and without.
He was troubled with finding answers.
And in the end David says…
Turn to me and be
gracious to me,
for I am lonely and
afflicted.
Verse 16
David stopped trying to make sense of the
numbers and humbles himself before God.
A point of surrender.
David turned to God and says…
Guard my life and
rescue me;
let me not be put to
shame,
for I take refuge in
you.
Verse 20
David in the end, hung onto two
things as he puts his hope in God…
May integrity and
uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in
you.
Verse 21
Integrity and Uprightness
When the numbers in your life do not add
up…
Put your hope in God.
He
is greater than all the numbers.
Second, realize your life with never add
up without Integrity and Uprightness.
Scripture
Reading
Psalms 25:16-22 NIV
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart have multiplied;
free me from my anguish.
18 Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.
19 See how my enemies have increased
and how fiercely they hate me!
20 Guard my life and rescue me;
let me not be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in you.
22 Redeem Israel, O God,
from all their troubles!
