Vision

Sandwiched between the command
to lay up treasures in Heaven
Matthew 6:19-21

And the warning that you
cannot serve God and money
Matthew 6:24

Jesus says…

“The eye is the lamp of the body”
“If your eyes are healthy,
your whole body will be full of light.
But if your eyes are unhealthy,
your whole body will be full of darkness.”
Matthew 6:22-23

In other words…

How you see reality determines
whether you are in the dark or not.

Jesus asked the question…

“If then the light within you is darkness,
how great is that darkness”

If we were to jump forward to Mathew 20:15
we can get a clue as Jesus gives us a parable…

There were men who came to work for the
master, they came at different times of the day.

The ones who worked all day received the
same pay as the ones who worked one hour.

The ones who worked all day
complained about the equal pay.

"But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'
Matthew 20:13-15

Bring this back to Matthew 6:23…

What was the eye of the
servants who complained on?

Their eye was on the money not
the generosity, grace and mercy.

I worked for Jeep for seven years
before I left that job to pastor full time.

There have been times when I have looked at
some of my Christian friends who retired from Jeep.

Although I am doing well, they are receiving
a retirement income and I am still working.

I have to confess there have been times
I questioned the discussion to leave Jeep.

I have thought of how that would have
made a difference in my senior years.

But thanks be to God that He has
brought my eyes back to the real purpose.

Through Jesus Christ we have
received the free gift of eternal life.

We cannot earn it just as we cannot
complain about the way God uses our lives.

We are bought with a price and it has
nothing to do with our money.

If our eye is on how much money we have or how
much money we can make, our eye is in darkness.

If our eye is on serving the Lord because
we are grateful for His generosity…

We will not worry about working
for money to buy food and clothing.

Because our Lord will see to it
that a laborer is worthy of his hire.

Don’t let money get in
the way of serving the Lord.

In serving the Lord, you may have times when
you don’t have two nickels to rub together and
you may have time the money is in abundance.

But remember this…

It is not about the money.

It is about stewarding
God’s grace in your life.

His grace may fall from heaven like mama or
you may have to fight for the promise land.

But never let your eye be
darkened to the reality of life.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World.

It’s about His generosity, not money.

“The eye is the lamp of the body”
“If your eye is healthy your whole body will be full of light”

Have a healthy view of life and when
people see you they will be envious
because they see you are full of Light…

The glory and goodness of
God shining from you.

Health is always better than a fat wallet.

Health starts with eyes full of Light.

Scripture Reading

Mathew 6:22-34

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
