The Main Thing Is Not Me

The Main Thing
Is Not Me

Who is the main person in your life?
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live,
but Christ lives in me.” Galatians 2:20

The Main Thing
Is Not Me

February 21, 2018, America’s Pastor at the age
of 99 met His Savior Jesus Christ face to face.

As the world news commented on the life of
this great man, one thing stood out to me.

Several said…

 “Billy Graham kept the
main thing the main thing”.

Graham was a spiritual adviser to US Presidents and
provided spiritual counsel for every president from
the 33rd, Harry S. Truman, to the 44th, Barack Obama.

It was said that Billy Graham always turned the
conversations to Christ, the hope for every need.

Billy Graham always kept Jesus, and
our need to follow Him, the main thing.

Matthew, Chapter 6, is a portion of Jesus’
message called the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus is telling us how to keep the main thing
the main thing and what the main thing is.

In the first 8 verses Jesus is telling us
not to make yourself the first thing.

Many of us do what we do to get recognition.

The things we do, the stories we tell,
are secondary to the main character.

I am grateful that I had some brothers in
Christ many years ago who pointed out to
me my use of the personal pronoun words
“I” “Me” “My” “Myself” and “Mine”.

We all want to be recognized.

We all want to feel important, but Jesus
warns us about blowing our own trumpet.

Make sure that when you are wanting to do
the right thing you make it the main thing.

Be humble, be the servant of the right thing.

Let your acts of righteousness be the main thing.

The way we can determine how well we
keep the main thing the main thing is…

How well we can keep it a secret.

Don’t be so quick to tell others what you did.

Let your acts of righteousness be the main thing.

Scripture Reading

Matthew 6:1-4
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
