The Main Thing
Purpose and Practice
The main thing is to
love God
This purpose is to
affect everything we practice in life
The natural and the spiritual are not
separated
When we make God the
main thing
God
is Spirit
But
He tells us that whatever we do, do it as unto the Lord
The first spiritual
assignment from God was for man to rule the earth
We are to make it our
prayer that God’s Kingdom comes in the earth
We are not to be so
heavenly minded we are not earthly good
God’s Word tells us
what we call secular should be done as unto the Lord
Be sure your purpose
and practice are carried out
With Love, Grace and
Truth
And don’t neglect
Justice and Love of God
Purpose and Practice
The main thing is the first thing
but it is not the only thing.
The first thing is
spiritual.
God is spirit, and his
worshipers must
worship in spirit and in truth.
John 4:24
It can be difficult to understand how to keep
the main thing, which is spiritual, in a natural world.
Some of us think if we work at a church as
a volunteer or paid staff that that is spiritual…
But when we work out side of the church
in an office, factory, fields or retail that is secular.
God’s Word tells us what we call secular
should be done as unto the Lord.
We are also reminded that what we do will not only
give us natural reward, but reward from the Lord.
Colossians
3:23; Ephesians 6:7
God does not separate the things we
do in the natural from the spiritual.
They are both important to Him.
When we separate the natural from the
spiritual we become guilty of being “so
heavenly minded we are no earthly good”.
When God is the main thing, all the
natural things we do are affected by the
influence of keeping God the main thing.
When the main thing is God and His Kingdom,
it begins to shape
the world around us.
God is Love and He is full of Grace and Truth.
Just these three attributes of God…
Love, Grace and Truth
change and
influence the environment around us.
When we demonstrate these qualities of who God is,
we fulfill two of the
basic commands God gives us.
The first command God gave Adam
and Eve was to “rule
over the earth”.
Jesus gives us the
command to make it our pray that
His Kingdom come in earth as it is in Heaven.
Making God, who is Spirit, the main thing is not
waiting for supernatural miracles to change the natural.
The main thing is for us to rule the earth and when
we rule with God being the main thing we
open the doors for God to do supernatural things.
Check it out, the three Hebrews who did all they
could to live for God and when they were
thrown in the fiery furnace God did the supernatural.
Paul went out to the Gentiles and many
times along the way God did the supernatural.
I am not sure the Old
Testament saints or the New
Testament saints were looking for the supernatural like we
do.
I think they were concerned with doing the main
thing and God supernaturally worked with them.
We can compartmentalize life like the
Pharisees who were good at the details
but lost their love for Justice and Love.
Keeping the main thing the main thing means keeping
“the purpose and the practice” in honor of God.
So whatever you do in
word
or deed do it as unto
the Lord.
Be sure your purpose and practice are
carried out with Love, Grace and Truth.
And don’t neglect Justice and Love of God.
Scripture Reading
Colossians 3:22-25 NIV
23 Whatever you do,
work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24 since
you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is
the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for
his wrong, and there is no favoritism.
Ephesians 6:5-8 NIV
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect
and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey
them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of
Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if
you were serving the Lord, not men, 8 because you know that the Lord will
reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
Luke 11:42 NIV
42 "Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth
of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice
and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the
former undone.
