Power "Who Then Can Be Saved?"

Power

Revelation 21:27
Nothing imperfect shall ever enter heaven
Perfection and eternal life are found in 2 words
“Follow me”
These were the only words Jesus gave to those who came to Him
Keep it simple don’t let anything get between you and Him

"Who Then Can Be Saved?"

The disciples asked a question I think all of us ask.

Jesus said the power to save is…

“With man this is impossible,
but with God all things are possible."

Jesus had just finished a discourse with
a man who had done well for himself.

He could afford a good life.

This man asked what good
must I do to have eternal life.

Jesus told him that there is only One who is good,
God is the only One that is good.

Good works are important.

 Look at God.

 Everything He does is
good because God is good.

But with man we cannot do enough
good works to gain eternal life.

I know most of us think
good people will go to heaven.

This is what the disciples thought.

That is why they asked the question…

 “Who then can be saved?"

If it is impossible for man to gain eternal life
through good works than how can a person be saved?

Jesus tells the answer…

"If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions
and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
Then come, follow me."

You cannot be told what to do.

The only way to eternal life is to “Follow Jesus”.

Following Jesus, doing what Jesus is
doing, is the only way to perfection.

When our possessions, the things we have gained,
the things we want, get in the way of us
following Jesus, we fall short of perfection.

We all follow things.

We follow Facebook, sports teams, TV shows, gaming.

We follow people, family and friends.

These things don’t have to be bad.

We are told if we follow the right
things we will live a better life.

But Jesus warns us that only
following Jesus will give us eternal life.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Jesus is the only One
who knows the way to heaven.

Following Jesus must be
the one and only in our lives.

That is why Jesus said to the
rich man, sell all and follow Me.

With man it is impossible to gain eternal life.

But with God all things are possible.

Jesus is the only One
who can lead you into heaven.

We all need to be careful that we do not let
other things we consider good, distract us from
following the only One who can lead us to eternal life.

Perfection does not come by being good.

Perfection comes by following Jesus.

"If you want to be perfect…Then come, follow me."

Heaven is more than just getting in.

For the things we leave to follow
Jesus, we gain as treasures in Heaven.

Following Jesus is submitting to where
He wants us to go, saying what He wants
us to say and doing what He wants us to do.

Only those things will
give us treasures in heaven.

So how close are you following Jesus?

We must always be careful that if we
lose sight of His tail lights we are lost.

Don’t let anything get between you and Him.

Scripture Reading

Matthew 19:21-ff  NIV

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"

27 Peter answered him, "We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?"

28 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
