Power Power of the Spirit

Power
Power of the Spirit

Jesus walked away from 40 days of Temptation
“In the Power of the Spirit”
3 Temptations for 40 days
Tempted with…
Food
World’s Possessions
Living on the Edge of Grace
Every day we face these same natural temptations
So how strong are we in the Power of the Spirit?

Power of the Spirit

40 days of Temptations.

40 days Jesus was tempted in 3 areas…

For 40 days Jesus did not eat and He was hungry.

The first sin of mankind involved eating.

I find it interesting that eating was the first
temptation for mankind and for Jesus.

I know this subject steps on all our toes.

The discipline and will power to eat right
lives with us every day and all day.

We need to make sure we don’t spiritualize the
Word of God to a point it has no effect on our daily walk.

After all, our daily walk is to pick
up our cross and follow Him.

That is a walk of crucifying the flesh.

Nothing tempts us more
than our hunger for food.

The second thing Jesus was tempted for
40days with was the World’s Possessions.

Never has the world had more to offer than today.

Never has it been easier to
get what the world has to offer.

The third thing Jesus was tempted with for
40 days is Living on the Edge of Grace.

Jesus died for our sins.

He is full of grace and mercy.

It can become easy for us to do wrong because
we know God is full of grace and mercy.

He will understand and forgive me
because He loves unconditionally.

How easy it is to take advantage of His grace.

These three areas of temptation all
have spiritual implications, but we
must not minimize the natural reality.

When Jesus ended the 40 Days
of Temptation, the scriptures say…

 Jesus returned to Galilee
in the Power of the Spirit.

The Power of the Spirit only comes when we
have resisted the temptation of the flesh.

And like Jesus, when we overcome temptation
there will be a time in the future when the
devil will look for another opportune time.

Jesus did not end the 40 days
of temptation in weakness.

“Jesus returned … in the Power of the Spirit

How are you and I handling our daily temptations?

What are you eating today?

What commercials are tempting you?

And what do you think God will
excuse because of His grace?

Don’t let the temptations keep
you from the Power of the Spirit.

Scripture Reading

Luke 4:13-15 NIV

13 When the devil had finished all this tempting,
he left him until an opportune time.

and news about him spread through the whole countryside.
