Mighty Men Standing When the Troops Flee

Mighty Men
Standing When the Troops Flee

In our personal lives we need to stand our ground
We need to fight till the Sword of the Spirit is frozen to our hand
Don’t retreat as others do, continue to fight for your freedom in Christ
Pursue the Kingdom of God
Righteousness, Peace and Joy
Know the Spirit of the Lord will empower you
“For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword

Standing When the Troops Flee

David and his troops were at Pas Dammim.

David’s troop retreated.

David and his three Mighty Men
stood to fight the battle.

Eleazar stood his ground until his sword had to
be pried from his hand that had been frozen to it.

Being left alone when there
is work to do is never fun.

When you are outnumbered,
and your friends leave in fear,
is never a good feeling.

David’s three Mighty Men
had outstanding courage.

They were not afraid to do
more than their fair share.

How about you and I?

Do we hang on to the Word of the
Lord until it becomes infused to us?

Is the Word of the Lord,
the Sword of the Spirit,
 giving us enough confidence
to stand when our friends leave?

David was a successful leader
because he had three Mighty Men.

Three men who would not leave
him when everyone else went home.

Every good leader needs mighty people who
will not leave when they are afraid or tired.

These three men risked their lives to refresh
David with his basic desire for a drink of water.

The little details, as well as, the big battles
are taken care of by mighty people.

In Jesus’ life there were Peter, James and John.

They were closer than the other 12 and the crowds.

Every leader needs to recognize the Mighty
that stand like the three Mighty Men of David
and Peter, James and John.

These men were mighty because
they gave more than they received.

They did not follow to get their needs met
but to meet the needs of their leader.

They were mighty because they
developed physical and spiritual skills.

They took personal responsibility
for their own development.

What they learned from others,
they developed in their lives,
and used it to be leaders.

Every leader will have people
they will have to pour into.

But the Mighty will refresh their leader.

You may not be one of the
three mighty around a leader.

But you and I can do our part
to make sure we don’t make the
work of the Mighty more difficult.

If getting a glass of water for David was so important…

Maybe making sure we don’t leave papers
or some mess at church for someone else, is a
mighty act to help the Mighty who stay to clean up.

In our personal lives, we need to stand our ground.

We need to fight till the Sword
of the Spirit is frozen to our hand.

Don’t retreat as others do, continue
to fight for your freedom in Christ.

Pursue the Kingdom of God
Righteousness, Peace and Joy.

Know the Spirit of the
Lord will empower you.

“For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul
and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Scripture Reading

2 Samuel 23:9-10

9 Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty men, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered [at Pas Dammim] for battle. Then the men of Israel retreated, 10 but he stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.

Hebrews 4:12-16
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword , it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
