Jesus’ Words in Red
"Get these out of here!
How dare you turn My Father's house into a market!"
The church is to take the Gospel to the market place
Jesus is very aggressive about keeping
the market place out of the church
I wonder how much more of God’s power we would see in the
church
And in us, if we fully recognized it as “My Father’s House”
Maybe we need to respond to Jesus’ words…
"Get these out of here!”
"Get these out of here!
How dare you turn My Father's house into a
market!"
I remember growing up in the church and
raffles and bake sales were not allowed at church.
Although there were other churches
that had fundraisers, we did not,
the reason was Jesus’ words in John 2:16…
"Get these out of here!
How dare you turn My Father's house
into a market!"
In order to understand the dynamics,
we must first look at
three of Jesus’ words…
“My Father's house”
The word “my” is possessive.
Jesus takes ownership by the
relationship of being God’s Son.
This relationship is also given to us.
Remember Jesus’ instruction on prayer?
He tells us to address God as…
“Our Father who is in
Heaven”
If you are married, you say…
my wife or my husband.
Or, if you have children…
you say my son or my
daughter.
Or, you might say my mother or my father.
In each case when you use the word
“my” you are being
possessive.
Most of us would agree we become more
aggressive when our/ “my”
(spouse, child, parent) is attacked than if we are.
Jesus sees the temple as His Father’s house.
Not the people’s house, not the pastor’s
or priest’s house, but the Father’s house.
The Father’s house and what it stands for
is worth honoring and taking a stand for.
Economics play a huge role in all our lives, “I get it!”
I work hard every day to pay the bills
and enjoy a better quality of life.
As a retailer, I know…
More people, More
buyers.
We can even see the connection.
These market makers were supplying a service
to the believers, making it more convenient
to buy a sacrifice at the temple rather than
to take it on the long journey from home.
Maybe the temple got a percentage.
Many people go to church because it
provides them with people to network with.
Multi-Level Marketing would have never got
off the ground if it was kept out of the church.
The church needs to teach the Biblical Principles
of economics, both for personal and business.
I have also seen many who don’t tithe look
for other ways to raise the money for the church.
Jesus makes it very clear the Father’s
house is not to be a market place.
Economics is a major factor of most of our discussions.
It can hinder faith and the purposes
of God in the church and in us.
Don't you know that you yourselves are God's
temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
1 Corinthians
3:16
Do you not know that
your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom
you have received from God?
You are not your own;
you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God
with your body.
1 Corinthians
6:19-20
David had an army, but when he counted
the men in the army God was angry
because he put his
confidence in the size
of the army not the size of His God.
Let’s not forget when we go
to church whose church it is.
When you get up in the morning and
look in the mirror let’s not forget the
body you see is the dwelling place of God.
I wonder how much more of God’s power
we would see in the church and in us if we
fully recognized it as “My Father’s House”.
Maybe we need to respond to Jesus’ words…
"Get these out of here!”
Scripture Reading
NIV
John 2:16
"Get these out of here!
How dare you turn my Father's house
into a market!"
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
16 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him;
for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you
were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
2 Corinthians 6:16-18
16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and
idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will
live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be
my people."
17 "Therefore come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you."
18 "I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty."
