Jesus’ Words in Red "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" "My time has not yet come."

Jesus’ Words in Red
"Dear woman, why do you involve me?"
"My time has not yet come."

Has the temporary problems of life kept you from the eternal purposes
When we pray do we pray
Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done
Is Jesus asking us the question
“Why are you trying to involve Me?”
Yes, Jesus sees everything that matters to us
But do we see how every matter concerns Him?

"Dear woman, why do you involve me?"
"My time has not yet come."

We are told the first miracle
Jesus performed was at a wedding.

Jesus was at the wedding with
His mother and His disciples.

A problem arose and Jesus’ mother took note of it,
the wine for the guests had run out.

Mary might have been thinking, I will have
my Son go to the store and get some wine.

Maybe Mary was just informing her Son.

Or maybe, Jesus’ mother thought
her Son could do something.

We don’t know, but what we do know is
Jesus spoke and we have four red letter sentences.

"Dear woman, why do you involve me?"
"My time has not yet come."
"Fill the jars with water"
"Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."

Jesus’ first question…

"Dear woman, why do you involve me?"

The Amplified Bible gives us this…

“What is that to you and to Me?”

As we go to the Father in Jesus’ name, when we pray…

When we take our observations and concerns to the Lord…

Why do we involve Him?

Jesus’ next sentence was…

"My time has not yet come."

It is clear Jesus was focused on His purpose.

When we bring our concerns in prayer
are we mindful of the Lord’s purpose?

I have to say that there are many concerns
in life that take me off course.

Things I think are important but
they divert me off the main track.

If you are A.D.D., like me, you
are doing 20 things at the same time.

I hear the words of some friends from years ago saying…

“Bill, it won’t matter in a year from now.”

Temporary problems taking me off the eternal purpose.

The scriptures tell us to cast all our cares upon Him.

So it is not God being insensitive to what matters to us.

As you and I develop in our relationship with Jesus,
we developed the heart for the purpose of God.

In other words, we come to God as His servants.

Our prayer is…

Thy Kingdom come thy will be done.

If we bring every concern to the Lord with the
purpose of seeing God’s Kingdom established,
we will begin to understand the timing of God…

"My time has not yet come."

Even though Jesus said the timing
was off, He still meets the need.

Mary turned her resources over to Jesus.

His mother said to the servants,
Whatever He says to you, do it.
John 2:5 AMP

Jesus said…

"Fill the jars with water"
"Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."

The servants had to do the natural task…

Fill with water and give to the master of the banquet.

Without their obedience nothing would have happened.

When we bring our requests to God there
is almost always some act of obedience on
our part required before God does a miracle.

I think we all get caught up in the problems of life
and when we pray we want God to go
to the store and bring back our need.

But maybe the Lord has something more
for us than a temporary solution.

Maybe He is asking us…

“Why do you involve me?"
"My time has not yet come."

Maybe He also wants to help us
receive the eternal purposes.

Scripture Reading

John 2:1-11 NIV

2:1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."

4 "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come."

5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.

8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."

They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

11 This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.
