Jesus Words in Red "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

Jesus Words in Red
"Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

Jesus was asked the question
"What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?"
Jesus’ answer was quickly misunderstood
Leading to disbelief
Jesus said, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."
We now have proof of Jesus’ authority through His resurrection of the dead
So will you submit to His Words?
Even when you don’t understand?

"Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

One of the common things we learn about Jesus’ Words is…

We can quickly misunderstand them.

When Jesus said…

 "Destroy this temple”

He was in conversation about His
Father’s house becoming a market place.

Jesus’ declaration was…

“I will raise it again in three days.”

In context of the moment,
Jesus’ Words could not make sense.

But remember the question Jesus is answering…

"What miraculous sign can you show
us to prove your authority to do all this?"

Jesus was being asked by what authority or right
He had to chase out the market makers.

Notice the Jews wanted proof of His
authority with a miraculous sign.

We quickly misunderstand because we are
so focused on what we see and have seen.

We also many times have to wait to fully understand.

The Disciples did not fully
understand Jesus until years later.

“The temple he had spoken of was his body.
After he was raised from the dead,
his disciples recalled what he had said.
Then they believed the Scripture and
the words that Jesus had spoken.”

Being a student of anything takes time.

Paying attention to Jesus’s Words
and giving time to understand them is
mandatory to being a good student or disciple.

Notice Jesus did show many miraculous
signs which none of them could compare to
the sign of His resurrection from the dead.

Note that Jesus did not entrust Himself to
men because He knew what was in a man….

“But Jesus would not entrust himself to them,
for he knew all men.
He did not need man's testimony about man,
for he knew what was in a man.”
verses 24, 25

One of the things we must remember
about Jesus is His authority.

Jesus’ authority came from God the Father…

Not a committee who elected Him.

Jesus did not try to get things done
by becoming a part of our systems.

We must remember it is not a
matter of getting God to join us.

We must submit to His authority.

The order established since Abraham.

The 46 years to build the temple.

The generational understanding of life.

All would change in three days.

The name from temple to church.

Christ would become the HHH  ead of the Church.

The day of worship would change from
the seventh day to the first day of the week.

Only those who stayed close to Jesus,

Who trusted in His authority,

Who were willing to lay down what they
saw for the vision of what God sees.

These were the people who came to understand.

Today we have the proof of His authority.

So let’s not spend our time questioning God’s Word.
Let’s submit to Him and believe until
we see and understand His Words.

Scripture Reading

John 2:18-25 NIV

18 Then the Jews demanded of him,
"What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?"

19 Jesus answered them,
"Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

20 The Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name.   24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. 25 He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
