Being
Successful
Self-Motivated
The
wisdom from the Ant teaches us we should be
Self-Motivated
Work
hard not just for ourselves, but for the community

Go to the ant…
Most of us do not like ants especially in our home.
You might say the only good ant is a dead ant.
But Solomon, full of wisdom and power,
takes notice of this little creature.
Solomon notices ants are successful.
Ants thrive on almost every land mass in the world.
Many, like Solomon, have studied ants to find keys
to success.
So what did Solomon learn from the ant?
What great wisdom did Solomon gain
from a tiny insect so inferior in size?
Solomon instructs “indolent:—slothful, sluggard”
(Strong’s Hebrew definition)
Indolent: wanting to avoid activity or
exertion; lazy

Two points of wisdom Solomon shares from the ant…
“It
has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores
its
provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”
The first point is no one should have to tell you
what to do.
Ants live in
community.
Ants do what they do for the community.
Ants appear to operate as a unified entity,
collectively working together to support the colony.
Ants understand seasons.
When times are lean they enjoy the benefits of work.
They don’t work to just get by.
They work for the future.
Ant’s don’t live in poverty because they
work hard and contribute to the community.
The closing words about the slugger and
the lesson on Ants makes a transmission…
Verse 11 “and poverty will come on you like
a
thief and scarcity like an armed man.”
When poverty comes to the lazy,
the community suffers with crime…
troublemakers and villains. Verse 12
Solomon lists 7 things God hates, these things
happen
because people don’t want to work, but want to eat.
Instead of giving to a community, they take
or become a burden to the community.
The last thing Solomon lists that God hates is…
“a person who stirs up conflict in
the community”
The wisdom
from the Ant teaches us we should be…
Self-Motivated
All work
hard not just for ourselves,
but for the community.
Not just
for today,
but for the future.
“Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!”
Scripture
Reading
Proverbs 6:6-19
Go to the
ant, you sluggard;
consider
its ways and be wise!
7 It
has no commander,
no
overseer or ruler,
8 yet
it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers
its food at harvest.
9 How
long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will
you get up from your sleep?
10 A
little sleep, a little slumber,
a little
folding of the hands to rest—
11 and
poverty will come on you like a thief
and
scarcity like an armed man.
12 A
troublemaker and a villain,
who goes
about with a corrupt mouth,
13 who
winks maliciously with his eye,
signals
with his feet
and
motions with his fingers,
14 who
plots evil with deceit in his heart—
he always
stirs up conflict.
15 Therefore
disaster will overtake him in an instant;
he will
suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.
16 There
are six things the LORD hates,
seven that
are detestable to him:
17 haughty
eyes,
a lying
tongue,
hands that
shed innocent blood,
18 a
heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that
are quick to rush into evil,
19 a
false witness who pours out lies
and a
person who stirs up conflict in the community.
