Knowledge Productive Knowledge

Knowledge

Productive Knowledge

Think about it…

God “has given us everything we need for life
and godliness through our knowledge of him.”

If we have been given all the knowledge we need,
than why do we still have the problems we do?

Some of us love to talk.

We can answer a simple question with millions of words.

Ever ask for a simple yes or no and get a book?

There is a lot of ineffective and unproductive knowledge.

I had a guy who worked for me who couldn’t
get anything done because he talked too much.

Meaningless knowledge, stuff that does not matter,
but he thought his knowledge should change the world.

Think about it…

God “has given us everything we need for life
and godliness through our knowledge of him”

If we have been given all the knowledge we need,
than why do we still have the problems we do?

Why is there so much lack of positive productivity in our lives?

Victor Weisskopf says…“Human existence is based upon two pillars:
Compassion and Knowledge. Compassion without Knowledge
is ineffective; Knowledge without Compassion is inhuman.”

Peter when talking of the knowledge for life
and godliness says that there are certain qualities
needed in order to make the knowledge productive.

Because corruption and evil desires get in the way of productive,
we need to “make every effort” to add the qualities Peter list…

  • Faith - without strong belief you will get side tracked
  • Goodness - Excellence, moral virtue, living up to the full potential
  • Knowledge - there is a head knowledge, that is what God gives us, but putting it into action gives us experimental knowledge.
  • Self-control – This is the personal restraint, mastering your mind, emotions and will not letting highs and lows affect our daily performance
  • Perseverance – This is enduring, patience, not quitting or settling for less than the finished goal, an ability to endure without complaining, and positive focus
  • Godliness – Holiness, set apart from anything that might contaminate the process, this is what determines the boundaries, these are not drawn with fine lines but separate us by long distances from things that keep us from a Christ-like lifestyle
  • Brotherly Kindness – We should never thing we are alone or should never walk alone. Everything God does has to do with relationships. Relationships don’t last without kindness, it is impossible to act on the knowledge of God without kindness
  • Love – This is what God is, God is Love. All the knowledge of God is knowing love. You cannot understand knowledge without love and you cannot act on knowledge without love

These are the qualities we need to possess and they
must be increasing in order to be effective and productive.

We must never forget that it was these qualities
Christ demonstrated to us that changed our lives.

Yes, knowledge must be exercised with skill
and character in order to be productive.

Scripture Reading

2 Peter 1:3-9 NIV

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
