Endurance
At age 61 Cliff Young ran over
500 miles in 1983 to win the race.
When you put your hope in the Lord
You too can have your youth renewed.
Endurance…The capacity of something
to last or to withstand wear and tear

Cliff Young was an Australian potato farmer.
On the farm he would also run through the hills to
round up the livestock on foot wearing gumboots.
At age 61 he entered Westfield
Sydney to Melbourne Ultra Marathon,
a distance of 544 miles.
Cliffy ran the race in five days fifteen hours,
almost two days faster than the previous record
and ten hours faster than the second place runner.
Most thought Cliffy was a joke.
It wasn’t Cliffy’s profession, he had no Nike
or other sports sponsors, it wasn’t his speed.
It was Cliffy’s endurance.
Cliffy ran through the day and into the night
while the other runners were sleeping.
Cliffy became the example of the “Tortoise and the Hare”.
Cliffy is an inspiring story of endurance because
everything wears out, everything has a limit.
The Bible says even youths grow tired and weary.
It is in these times where we seem to hit our limit that
we complain and think God is not interested in our case.
It is in these times we need to be reminded of Isaiah’s
words…
Do you not know? Have
you not heard?
The Lord is the
everlasting God,
the Creator of the
ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired
or weary
You and I can find the strength to endure in these words…
He gives strength to
the weary
and increases the
power of the weak.
The ability to endure comes through “HOPE”.
Hope in the God of all creation.
Hope in God who does not grow weary or tired…
Those who hope in the
Lord
will renew their
strength.
They will soar on
wings like eagles;
they will run and not
grow weary,
they will walk and not
be faint.
Whether you are young or old…
Fast or slow…
Endurance comes from “HOPE” in the Lord.
The story of Cliff
Young was made into
a movie in May, 2013,
called “Cliffy”.
You can find it on
Netflix and Amazon.
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 40:27-31 NIV
27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
and complain, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the Lord;
my cause is disregarded by my God"?
28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
