Do Not Forget the Lord
Pride Causes Us to Forget
Don’t allow pride to take your focus of
thanksgiving and praise off God and helping others
Be careful when you come into your blessings
“Your heart will
become proud and
you will forget the
Lord your God”
Those who forget their humble beginnings fall prey to pride.
When life is good, you can afford the finer
cuts of meat and the grocery bill is not a problem.
When you have stopped renting and
have moved into your dream house…
When your income allows you to
spend on pleasure not just needs…
This is when pride creeps in.
It is a time when we can start to
look down on those less fortunate.
It is a time when we can get the feeling
‘we deserve it because we have worked hard’.
It is a time when our confidence in ourselves
takes us to a place that we don’t need anyone or God.
When we forget that God created us with abilities…
When we forget (whether we acknowledge God or not)
He has been working in our lives every day to equip us
to be successful so we might build His
Kingdom and bring peace on earth.
Moses could see the 40 years of equipping in the
wilderness had made the people of God ready to take
on the challenges and responsibilities of the Promise Land.
He knew the land God had provided was rich and
would supply everything they need and then some.
He also knew that after the hard work human nature has a
tendency to forget where all the resources and abilities come
from.
When we lose focus of where all we have
comes from we can easily become full of pride.
Harry Truman became the United States 33rd
president.
He was president during the final months of World War II.
His eight years of presidency was filled with challenge,
ending
the war, rebuilding foreign affairs, and America’s economy.
Truman was a great
leader and he said…
Truman’s words sound
like he took a lesson from Moses.
Trust God and never forget your humble beginnings.
Don’t allow pride to take your focus of
thanksgiving and praise off God and helping others.
Be careful when you come into your blessings
“your heart will
become proud and
you will forget the
Lord your God.”
Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 8:10-20 NIV
10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord
your God for the good land he has given you. 11 Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to
observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.
12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and
settle down, 13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and
gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who
brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 He led you through the
vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous
snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. 16 He gave you
manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble
and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 17 You may say to
yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth
for me." 18 But remember the Lord
your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so
confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
19 If you ever forget
the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I
testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. 20 Like the
nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying
the Lord your God.
