Do Not Forget the Lord
Because I Have Redeemed You the Creator of Heaven and Earth
God has not forgotten
you in the span of history
History, we live in a time
where there is 6000 years of it.
Museums and memory statues and markers are not far from
where you live no matter where you are in the world.
The interesting thing about history as old
as it might be, is it is still being made today.
Much of history points to time of
hardship and the victory over it.
The scriptures are
more than a history
book even though it is full of history.
Abraham and Sarah are a pivotal point in history.
Their family is the Jewish people.
You will find Jewish people all over the earth but their
greatest concentration is found in the land of Israel, named
after
Abraham’s grandson Jacob who God gave a new name Israel.
Looking at their history you will discover
Abraham’s children are called God’s people.
You will also discover these people many times were
living under harsh governments, even made as slaves.
Throughout history there have been those
committed to destroying the children of God.
The history of the Jews and the church is full of these
stories.
Isaiah speaks the Word of the Lord to Israel in one of these
times.
There are 3 key things to note…
In times of trouble we forget the Lord V. 12
All of us who have an image of God being loving and struggle
when
we see things happening that we did not believe God would
allow.
It becomes hard for us to understand why God
would allow bad things to happen to good people.
The Word of the Lord through
Isaiah gives us two things to note…
The first is do not forget the Lord your “Maker”.
I have found this advice to be helpful
to me many times in my struggles.
I go back to creation and before long I can
see everything God created was good.
Full of purpose and provision.
In verse 11, is the second thing, hope.
In the 1970’s and 80’s, the church used to sing a lot of
scripture put to music and Isaiah 11 was one of those songs.
“The ransomed or
redeemed of the Lord will return…with singing...everlasting joy…
Gladness and
joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away”
God speaks these words to us to comfort us.
Our historical prospective is important.
It starts with God creating the heavens
and the earth and the human race.
We are still making history whether the time
of history is filled with peace or turmoil.
Remember this… the Lord will return.
He wants you and I to have hope “an
everlasting joy” will crown our heads.
Put on the crown.
Let gladness and joy overtake you.
Because you know God
will cause
the sorrow and sighing to flee away.
That is what remembering the Lord can
do for you now and for all eternity.
God has not forgotten you in the span of history.
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 51:11-13 NIV
11 The ransomed of the Lord will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
12 "I, even I, am he who comforts you.
Who are you that you fear mortal men,
the sons of men, who are but grass,
13 that you forget the Lord your Maker,
who stretched out the heavens
and laid the foundations of the earth,
that you live in constant terror every day
because of the wrath of the oppressor,
who is bent on destruction?
For where is the wrath of the oppressor?
