Burn Like a Fire in Me
What is burning in
you?
Our God is a
consuming fire
Kindle that fire,
allow Him to burn with passion
What are you for and
against?
How does that line up
with the zeal of God?
Don’t be lukewarm, be
passionate
In the Sunday morning worship service
we were singing “Burn
Like a Fire in Me”.
I began to think, “What is burning in us?”
What is the passion, the zeal,
the things that matter most to us?
The song is about a passion for the nations, for the
world to know I’m living for Your glory on the earth.
One of the best ways to describe passion,
zeal and what matters most to us is with fire.
Fire has to have something to consume.
It is interesting that burning passion can come
from what we love or from what we despise.
We can get very worked up about things that bother us.
I can get riled over injustice, get me started on certain
topics and you will see the burning inside of me intensify.
It is good to have a fire in you.
The disciples saw a fire in Jesus…
“His disciples remembered
that it is written:
"Zeal for your house will consume
me."” John 2:17
Romans 12:11says…
“Never be lacking in
zeal, but keep
your spiritual fervor,
serving the Lord.”
And in Revelation 3:15-16…
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold
nor hot.
I wish you were either
one or the other! 16 So,
because you are
lukewarm — neither hot nor cold —
I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
Life is meant to be lived with passion.
The things we do, our deeds, our actions
get done by the passion within us.
The other day while traveling down the highway I
saw a bus with flashing lights in the other direction.
It was a correctional facility bus and
the inmates were picking up trash.
The inmates had no passion for what they
were doing, they were just killing time.
What a horrible way to live “killing time”.
God’s desire for you and I is to see our time filled with
purpose, a purpose that burns a fire of passion inside of us.
There are 2 things that get the fire burning in us…
What we are “for” and what we are “against”.
Everything in the middle is lukewarm,
it is just killing
time.
To be a person who is not lukewarm, just killing time,
you need to know what you are for and what you are against.
They are the things that matter that make a difference.
These are the things we need to stay focused on in order
to have a life that will glorify God and change the world.
What is burning in you?
Our God is a consuming fire.
Kindle that fire, allow Him to burn with passion.
What are you for and against?
How does that line up with the zeal of God?
Don’t be lukewarm, be passionate.
Scripture Reading
NIV
John 2:17
17 His disciples remembered that it is written:
"Zeal for your house will consume me."
Romans 12:11
11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep
your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Revelation 3:14-22
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true
witness, the ruler of God's creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are
neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because
you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of my
mouth. 17 You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.'
But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become
rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and
salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest,
and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my
voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
21 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with
me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.
22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
