Insecurity
Don’t Throw Away Your Confidence
Insecurity comes from a lack of knowledge
But to have knowledge and not act on it is to throw away your confidence
When your confidence is in the truth of God’s Word
You never stand alone
And you will always be rewarded
Don’t Throw Away Your Confidence
Insecurity comes from a lack of knowledge.
But to have knowledge and not act on
it is to throw away your confidence.
Hebrews 10:26 – 39, addresses this issue.
Verse 26 addresses having the knowledge
of the truth and not acting on it.
Some very strong language is used here
and severe consequences for those who
know the truth and don’t exercise
confidence in the truth.
To know the truth that was revealed
in the law of Moses required…
People to live by it or be punished.
To know the truth of Jesus Christ…
And not exercise confidence in it treats
the blood of the Son of God as dirt
and insults the Spirit of Grace.
God requires us to act in confidence
because of the truth He has given us.
If we do not act on it with confidence,
we bring judgment on ourselves.
To know good and not do it…
Is sin.
When we get to verse 32
we see the word “Remember”.
As life goes on we can forget things.
We are reminded of the effects of the truth
in our lives when we first received it…
The confidence to stand our
ground in the face of suffering.
Confidently standing even though
we were insulted and persecuted.
We stood with others when
they were threatened…
We stood for what was right.
Maybe you and I did not see
righteous people go to jail.
Or, have our property confiscated
like many other believers.
But for those who know the truth…
We know God has promised us
better and lasting possessions.
So after setting us up in verses 26
to 34 with an intense challenge…
Verse 27 says…
So do not throw away your confidence;
it will be richly rewarded
“Persevere”
You need to persevere so that when you
have done the will of God,
you will receive what he has promised.
Verse 36
Your confidence and mine is not
based on the moment.
It is based on the future.
For in just a very little while,
"He who is coming will come and will not delay.
But my righteous one will live by faith.
And if he shrinks back,
I will not be pleased with him."
Verses 37-38
Verse 39 tells us…
We are not those who “shrink back”…
Cower, Withdraw, Become Reserved.
No, we are those who believe and
act because we are confident
in not only doing what is right…
But standing with those who are
persecuted for the truth…
Because we know the truth of Jesus
Christ the Son of God endures forever.
Our salvation is more then the moment
but it is eternal for those
who never forget and always act…
Because we are confident in the truth of God.
Your confidence matters.
God wants you and I to
be confident in the truth.
So if you are dealing with insecurity, get
your eyes back on Him because He
wants to make you bold and confident.
When you stand on the truth, you
can’t stand on anything more solid.
Scripture Reading
Hebrews 10:26-39 NIV
26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For in just a very little while,
"He who is coming will come and will not delay.
38 But my righteous one will live by faith.
And if he shrinks back,
I will not be pleased with him."
39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
