Insecurity
Embarrassment
Jesus Christ is worthy of all respect
But He makes Himself available to the little children, to men and women
To all people groups, even people full of demons
Jesus wants us to have confidence even though we have no right to come to Him
This is the invitation we have
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Why? Because…
We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Hebrews 4:15
No matter what we face in life
No matter how embarrassed we may be
We have an invitation to approach God's Throne of Grace
Embarrassment
No one likes to be embarrassed.
It is a feeling of self-consciousness,
shame or awkwardness.
I love NHL hockey, the players are the best…
Their fast-paced skating and puck handling is amazing.
It would be a total embarrassing moment for me
to get on the ice with the Tampa Bay Lightnings.
They would not like it, if I got on the ice
to help them win the Stanley Cup.
It would be embarrassing to
talk about hockey to the players.
I might even be afraid to ask questions,
if I had a chance, because I might look dumb.
Although I think it would be cool to get
up close to Steven Stamkos or Andrei
Vasilevskly, (said to be the greatest Goalie ever).
I would be nervous about what to say.
I like the game, but I don’t live it.
It only plays a small part in relationship
to everything else in my life.
I would be very uncomfortable spending
a day with one of those players.
I can’t afford the restaurants
and entertainment they can.
To drive them around in my 2005 Prius
with 200,000 miles and
a dash lighting up with Check Engine,
Maintenance Required, ABS and
other lights.
Not to mention…
The rust and body damage would
be a huge embarrassment.
Although I like hockey and the players…
I am not like them.
I may in front of the TV Screen saying
things about their playing,
that I would never say to them personally.
If I am embarrassed to talk and live
with a NHL player, how much more God.
God is not only good…
He is perfect.
On every level I find myself
insecure because I feel embarrassed.
But God is very down to earth.
He has not only created us…
But became like us & loves us.
Becoming a high priest who
sympathizes with our weaknesses.
Jesus Christ is worthy of all respect…
But He makes Himself available to the
little children, to men and women, to all
people groups, even people full of demons.
Jesus wants us to have confidence even
though we have no right to come to Him.
This is the invitation we have…
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence,
so that we may receive mercy and
find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
Why? Because…
We do not have a high priest who is unable
to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who has been tempted in every way,
just as we are — yet was without sin.
Hebrews 4:15
When you and I need help…
When we have said or done something
that is embarrassing before God…
He has mercy on us.
When we think we will
make a mess of our words…
He invites us to come with confidence and He will listen…
Even though He knows what we
will say even before we say it.
My daughter, Sarah, worked with
Gordie Howe’s (Mr. Hockey) son
and got to meet Gordie.
I am so jealous.
What a thrill.
But we have a greater One who
invites us to come before Him.
The invitation is to come with confidence.
To approach Him knowing He loves us
And not only wants to say its “Ok” …
But help us become all we were made to be.
You and I can have confidence
to approach God’s throne.
With that confidence, our insecurities should
not stand in the way of anything.
No matter what we face in life.
No matter how embarrassed we may be.
We have an invitation to approach
God's Throne of Grace.
Scripture Reading
Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
