The Blessing of Security

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

“The Lord Bless you and Keep You

Is a word picture of a hedge of thorns

Keeping out harm

And keeping us in the Word and will of God

The Blessing of Security

Priesthood is a holy calling.

The priesthood is for those who are
close to God in prayer and worship.

Those who understand God’s Word and will.

Now this may surprise you,
but the priesthood is your calling.

The priesthood takes responsibility for others.

The primary responsibility of the priesthood is
to bring the blessing of the Lord upon people.

Maybe the most crippling and
painful thing in life is insecurity.

Insecurity breeds fear.

Insecurity is the absence
of trust and confidence.

Insecurity keeps you and I from making
right decisions and moving forward.

When the Lord instructed the priesthood to
speak a blessing on the people, the first issues
in the blessing to address is insecurity.

The priest was to say…

“The Lord bless you and keep you.”

To “keep you” the word picture
is a hedge of thorns around you.

The thorns serve two purposes…

The sharp thorns are to keep
outside enemies out.

But the sharp thorns face inward as well
to keep us from venturing out of God’s will.

This is a prayer we need to
always be giving for others…

To keep, guard, protect,

In the Middle Ages, a “keep” was a
type of fortified tower within castles.

When the castle was under attack, the
“keep” or tower became a place of refuge.

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.”
Proverbs 18:10 NIV

The first part of the blessing the Lord
wants us to give to others is security.

Even when our world is under
attack and falling around us…

There is security in the name of the Lord.

 Scripture Reading

Numbers 6:22-27 NIV
22 The Lord said to Moses, 23 "Tell Aaron and his sons,
'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:

24 "'"The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace." '

27 "So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them."

1 Peter 2:4-6 NKJV
chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones,
are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer
up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of
Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light
