Being Someone Else’s Blessing

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

“The Lord blessed the household of the
Egyptian because of Joseph.”

Genesis 39:5

Can you handle it?

Being Someone Else’s Blessing

As a pastor, I have been asked to bless a lot of things.

I have been asked to bless things
 like babies, houses, and travel.

I had even been asked to bless a sport
fishing boat on Lake Eire and a bar.

I don’t know about the blessing of the bar because shortly
after it opened, there was a fire and it shut the business down.

I am not sure we can go around with a bottle
of anointing oil and mark things out for blessing.

Yet…

“The blessing of the Lord was on
everything Potiphar had, both
in the house and in the field.”
 Genesis 39:5

Wow…

The blessing was on everything Potiphar had.

You have to ask yourself why
 God is blessing this Egyptian?

We get the answer because…

 “The Lord was with Joseph”.

Potiphar was Joseph’s master.

Our God is a God of provision.

Everything God makes has order.

In the New Testament, we are told to
do everything decently and in order.

The Lord was with Joseph and
caused him to understand “order”.

Or, if you will…

The laws of provision.

The Lord was with Joseph and gave him the wisdom
and understanding of the laws or order of provision.

Joseph put these principles to work.

Joseph became responsible
for everything Potiphar had.

That is going to keep a person very busy.

Now think about this…

All Joseph’s hard work
was for someone else…

A master.

“The Lord blessed the household of the
Egyptian because of Joseph.”
 Genesis 39:5

Is your boss blessed because of you?

Are others blessed because of you?

Scripture Reading

Genesis 39:2-6 NIV

2 The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. 6 So he left in Joseph's care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.
