The Blessing
By William M. Self, Sr.
Out of all the lights you will see at Christmas time
Only one Light will bring the blessing
You are truly looking
for
The Blessing of Light
The blessing of God to be spoken
by the priest in
Numbers 6 says…
“The Lord make his
face shine upon you.”
It is very popular to hear the words of
the Prophet Isaiah at Christmas time…
“For to us a child is
born,to us a son is given”
Isaiah 9:6
But did you know what God says
at the start of that chapter…
“Nevertheless, there
will be no more gloom for
those who were in
distress. In the past he humbled
the land of Zebulun
and the land of Naphtali, but
in the future he will
honor Galilee of the Gentiles,
by the way of the sea, along the Jordan —
The people walking in darkness have seen
a great light; on
those living in the land of
the shadow of death a
light has dawned.”
These prophetic words are news of
“light, a great light”
coming.
The light is to a particular people the “Gentiles”.
In fact He says…
“In the future he will honor Galilee of the
Gentiles”
In Numbers 6, we read God names specifically
the Israelites as the ones He is blessing
with the illumination
face of God.
Isaiah specifically mentions the
illuminating light on the Gentiles.
It was the light of a star that
led the way to Jesus'
birth.
Shortly after Jesus' birth…
Simeon took him in his
arms and praised God, saying:
29 "Sovereign
Lord, as you have promised,
you now dismiss your
servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have
seen your salvation,
31 which you have
prepared in the sight of all people,
32 a light for
revelation to the Gentiles
and for glory to your
people Israel."
Luke 2:28-32
NIV
There are many lights of all colors at Christmas time.
But the one light illuminates the face of God.
Only that light will enable us to see the blessing
and experience the
blessing.
What lights are shining in your house?
Scripture Reading
Numbers
6:22-27 NIV
22 The Lord
said to Moses, 23 "Tell Aaron and his sons,
'This is how you are to bless the Israelites.
Say to them:
24
"'"The Lord bless you
and keep
you;
25 the Lord
make his face shine upon you
and be
gracious to you;
26 the Lord
turn his face toward you
and give you
peace." '
27 "So
they will put my name on the Israelites,
and I will
bless them."
Isaiah 9:1-6
NIV
Nevertheless,
there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.
In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and
the land of Naphtali,
but in the
future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles,
by the way of the sea, along the Jordan —
2 The people
walking in darkness
have seen a
great light;
on those
living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has
dawned.
3 You have
enlarged the nation
and
increased their joy;
they rejoice
before you
as people
rejoice at the harvest,
as men
rejoice
when
dividing the plunder.
4 For as in
the day of Midian's defeat,
you have
shattered
the yoke
that burdens them,
the bar
across their shoulders,
the rod of
their oppressor.
5 Every
warrior's boot used in battle
and every
garment rolled in blood
will be
destined for burning,
will be fuel
for the fire.
6 For to us
a child is born,
to us a son
is given,
and the
government will be on his shoulders.
And he will
be called
Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace.
