Romans 1 Righteousness by Faith

Romans 1

Righteousness by Faith

Description: What Does Romans 1:17 Mean?

Righteousness starts with Faith and ends with Faith

It starts with a Faith in God who is the model of Righteousness

Faith is something you put your trust in

Paul tells us putting our Faith in Jesus Christ and making Him Lord of our lives will Justify us, Save us, which is God’s Gift

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile — the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."  Romans 10:9-13

Paul says

a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,

When you and I put our Faith in God, the Righteous One,

Righteousness is revealed from that day to the last day of our Faith

Righteousness is revealed on a daily basis

Doing what is right is a process of our Faith

This is why Paul says

"The righteous will live by faith."

Righteousness by Faith

There is so much packed into Romans 1:16 & 17.

There are a number of documents written on these few words.

Paul’s writings in these two verses are exhaustive.

We all should take note of Paul’s words…

“it is the power of God for the salvation”

We need Salvation - we need a Savior.

Where can we find God’s saving power?

Paul says….

It is in the Gospel that he is not ashamed of.

Why does Paul say…

I am not ashamed of the gospel”?

Verse 17 tells us…

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed

The answer is Righteousness.

There is nothing to be ashamed of in Righteousness, what is right.

The Gospel or Good News of God

reveals this righteousness in two ways.

One, God is righteous, in Him is no wrong.

Second is, God’s righteousness is a gift to mankind.

We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us,

so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21

The Gospel reveals God’s perfect righteous character.

The verses following verse 17…

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed

It tells us this righteous God is bringing wrath from heaven…

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness

Romans 1:18

So, God’s character is Righteous and He must and is Just.

He is and will bring judgment against all unrighteousness.

They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12

Paul tells us later in the Book of Romans…

All have sinned or have been unrighteous.

Romans 3:23

This poses a problem for all of us.

This is why the second take away from

the Gospel revealing a righteousness of God is…

 God’s Gift of Righteous.

For the wages of sin is death,

but the gift of God is eternal life

in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed

What is revealed?

 Righteousness…

a righteousness that is by faith from first to last

This righteousness is revealed only by faith.

Paul says from first to last.

Righteousness starts with faith and ends with faith.

It starts with a faith in God…

Who is the model of Righteousness.

Faith is something you put your trust in.

Paul tells us putting our faith in Jesus Christ…

Making Him Lord of our lives will…

Justify us, Save us, which is God’s Gift .

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile — the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Romans 10:9-13

Paul says…

a righteousness that is by faith from first to last

When you and I put our faith in God, the Righteous One…

Righteousness is revealed from that day to the last day of our faith.

Righteousness is revealed on a daily basis.

Doing what is right is a process of our Faith.

This is why Paul says…

"The righteous will live by faith."

I am not ashamed of the Gospel

Living shamelessly.

Scripture Reading

Romans 1:16-17 NIV

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
