Romans 1
The Gospel
Romans 1:2-4
The Gospel he promised
beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures
regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David,
and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Good News, the Gospel the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
This is the Truth and if we believe this
We can believe the rest of God’s Good News for us
We, like Paul, must get out the Gospel of God
It is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
That validates God’s Gospel above all others
It is Faith in the Resurrection of the Son of God Jesus that changes a life
There is and never was a greater message then that
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God
The Gospel
The word Gospel means good message.
Throughout time, messages have been delivered.
Some of the oldest forms of sending messages were…
Talking or making sounds, drawings or paintings,
acting, dancing, and using symbols.
Messages were communicated in town meetings.
But to get the message out,
there was the need to send travelers.
In 1800BC, Chinese soldiers leveraged smoke
signals to warn their comrades 500 miles away
from the Great Wall of China.
Pigeons were used as early as 3000 years ago and
used to proclaim the winner of the Ancient Olympics.
In 1877 Alexander Graham invented the Telephone.
From lighted torches to spell out a message
to texting today…
We can see the ways and effectiveness of
sending a message has greatly increased.
Paul saw himself as a messenger of
the Gospel of God, God’s Good News.
Paul used travel to personally get the word out,
and others, to take the message and letters.
It is amazing with those types of communication
in those days, that the message of the Gospel
reach was so impacting to reach the world.
It is amazing to see all the ways
we can get a message out.
Even in a pandemic like Covid, office meetings
and church meetings could be done
from the seats of a person’s home,
rather than one central room.
With all these advances, we can now get
messages to more people, faster than ever before,
Paul tells us what this Good News is,
and he used the fullest extent of
communication of his time…
The Gospel
#1 Gospel of God
This Gospel is God giving us a message…
…the gospel he promised beforehand
Romans 1:2
God has given us the Gospel, the Good News,
before Paul, so how did God do it? …
Through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son
The Good News came before Jesus was born.
God spoke through the mouths of Prophets,
words they could not fully understand…
Because they were speaking of things they would
not see in their life time and written words
that could not be changed, even though many
have tried to amend or translate it out of context.
The message is about the Son of God.
The Son of God would have natural or earthly connection…
who as to his human nature was a descendant of David
The message of the Son of God is totally
relatable to our life on earth, yet
divinely powerful by the Spirit of God…
and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be
the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
Holiness, Sacred
Physically He is pure, morally blameless.
The evidence of the Gospel, the Good News is…
declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead:
Jesus Christ our Lord
Romans 1:4
There are a lot of messages in the Bible,
and many speaking messages
that sound like the messages in the Bible.
But the first and most important message
is Jesus Christ,
the Son of God’s resurrection from the dead.
Because of this message, Romans 1:6-7 tells us…
And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father
and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Now the reason Paul’s message was so powerful
and reached throughout the world of his time
and even to us today is…
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It is the ultimate evidence that the
rest of God’s Message is the Truth.
With all the ways we have to get out a message,
and with the speed we can do it,
we need to get the message out that Jesus Christ,
the Son of God rose from the dead and is alive today.
Facebook and Google, the internet powers, are trying
to sensor messages that they deem untrue, and there are
many false or evil, not good messages going out ever second.
But this Good News, the Gospel,
the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead:
Jesus Christ our Lord…
This is the truth and if we believe this,
we can believe the rest of God’s Good News for us.
We, like Paul, must get out the Gospel of God.
It is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
that validates God’s Gospel above all others.
It is faith in the resurrection of
the Son of God Jesus that changes a life.
There is and never was a greater message than…
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Scripture Reading
Romans 1:1-7 NIV
1:1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. 6 And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
