Romans 1 Revealed

Romans 1

Revealed

Description: Bible Love Notes: Third Oldest Sin: You Can Run, But You Can't Hide

Hide and Seek in the dark can be scary and fun

But don’t play Hide and Seek with God

Righteousness is not a game

Moses warned the people

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:23

BUT

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 1:9-10

Romans 1:17

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is REVEALED

Adam and Eve could not hide their sin, King David could not hide his sin

Uncover the Gospel and find righteousness

Before your sins are uncovered and revealed

"The righteous will live by faith."

Revealed

Kids, at night, love to play hide and seek,

Kick the Can and Ghost in the Graveyard.

Under the cover of darkness and behind objects,

kids are trying not to be revealed by “Your IT”.

Playing any type of Tag,

the one who is “It” tags another person

and cries out “Your It”.

In real life, you do not want to be “It”.

Hiding started at the beginning of time.

God and man walked together in the wonderful

Garden He had created for them.

But when that was not enough,

Adam and Eve disobeyed God and hid.

King David sinned by taking another man’s wife

and having her husband killed.

When God revealed to the prophet, Nathan, what David did…

He told David a compelling story of injustice

which enraged David to the point of anger

to put the unjust person to death.

It is at this point, Nathan says

 “You are the man!”

in other words “Your It”.

Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man!

This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes?

2 Samuel 12:7-9

Like Adam and Eve, David was given so much from the Lord

and yet disobeyed the Lord and went into hiding.

Sin and disobedience causes all of us to hide.

In Romans 1:17, we read…

“righteousness from God is revealed”

The word “reveal” means to take off the cover; to disclose

In the Gospel, the Good News of God

we find the covers being taken off.

Romans 2:4 says it this way…

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness,

 tolerance and patience, not realizing

that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

God in His goodness, desires to lead us

out of hiding and toward repentance.

A Godly sorrow that brings change and

enables us to walk out of hiding

by God’s forgiveness.

Sadly, many will not come out of hiding,

no matter how good God has been to them.

This is where Romans 1:18 and following comes in…

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven

against all the godlessness and wickedness of men

who suppress the truth by their wickedness

 Romans 1:18

God’s wrath “IS” being revealed.

You do not want to go into hiding

and be tagged by God in your sin.

So how do we become “Righteousness”?

Three times we find in Scripture these words…

"The righteous will live by faith."

In Habakkuk, God reveals, gives revelation to Habakkuk,

 who is standing watch.

God reveals or uncovers…

The sin of the people and the righteousness of people.

God also reveals the timing.

Although God sees and now Habakkuk sees.

 God says…

The revelation awaits an appointed time;…

it will certainly come and will not delay

Although sin is uncovered,

 the uncovering of God’s wrath,

His judgment, will come later.

The reading of Habakkuk 2:4 is interesting…

“but the righteous will live by his faith—"

The word faith is also translated “faithfulness”.

So, it would read like this…

“but the righteous will live by his faithfulness—"

This shows us faith will have faithfulness.

The question that comes from this is…

 Does your faith have faithfulness?

Paul uses the words…

"The righteous will live by faith."

 Galatians 3:11

Paul is pointing out living by faith

is not keeping the commandments.

The righteous will not live by law…

 They will live by faith.

This is a very important difference.

When Paul uses these words in Romans 1:17…

“The righteous will live by faith.”

Paul says Righteousness starts with faith and ends with faith.

Righteousness is living faithfully every day from start to finish.

Righteousness is revealed or uncovered by God in the Gospel…

The uncovering of God’s goodness and what is right.

Not to be a law, but a lifestyle we live.

If you do not repent,

 expose ourselves before God

and find forgiveness…

 God in the appointed time

will pour out His wrath and judgment.

Hide and Seek in the dark can be scary and fun.

But don’t play Hide and Seek with God.

Righteousness is not a game.

Moses warned the people…

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD;

and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.

Numbers 32:23

BUT…

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

1 John 1:9-10

Romans 1:17…

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is REVEALED

Adam and Eve could not hide their sin.

King David could not hide his sin.

Uncover the Gospel and find Righteousness…

Before your sins are uncovered and revealed.

"The righteous will live by faith."

Scripture Reading

Romans 1:17 NIV

17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Habakkuk 2:2-4 NIV

2 Then the LORD replied:

"Write down the revelation

and make it plain on tablets

so that a herald may run with it.

3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time;

it speaks of the end

and will not prove false.

Though it linger, wait for it;

it will certainly come and will not delay.

4 "See, he is puffed up;

his desires are not upright —

but the righteous will live by his faith—

Galatians 3:11 AMP

11 Now it is evident that no person is justified (declared righteous and brought into right standing with God) through the Law, for the Scripture says, The man in right standing with God [the just, the righteous] shall live by and out of faith and he who through and by faith is declared righteous and in right standing with God shall live

Galatians 3:11-14 NIV

11 Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith."   12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The man who does these things will live by them."   13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."   14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
