Shall We Go On Sinning?

Description: 0514 Romans 61 We Go On Sinning Powerpoint Church Sermon | PowerPoint Presentation Sample | Example of PPT Presentation | Presentation Background

Our heavenly Father is full of grace and truth, or the law

You can always find favor and the truth in Him

It is His goodness or kindness that leads us to repentance Romans 2:4

Paul’s point is, God is Good, Full of Grace, and The Law (Truth)

But for us, we need to change, because we are slaves to sin and sin leads to death

So, we must repent of sin and be obedient, which leads to righteousness Romans 6:16

Tell me a child who is not obedient to parents

Who are full of grace, what good is it for the child?

Tell me a child who is taught the truth about life

The laws of right and wrong, and is not obedient, what good is it for the child?

Our God and Father has done everything for us out of His great love

Pouring out Grace and Truth

What good is it, if we do not repent and obey?

Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey — whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Romans 6:15-18

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Romans 6:1-3

Shall We Go On Sinning?

Paul asks a strange question…

“Shall we go on sinning?”

Paul asks this question twice.

The first time is in verse 1 of Romans 6…

What shall we say, then?

Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

Grace, can you think of anything more wonderful.

To find favor in any situation is a good thing.

There is a grace in the heart of a parent.

There are parents who seem to

have an over abundance of grace.

Grace is the essence of love.

The child growing up under

such grace and love is blessed.

The parents hold back nothing within their power

to demonstrate their love and grace.

But somehow, no matter how great the

sacrifices to show their love and favor,

there are children who take advantage of it.

The child realizes they can get away with anything

because grace covers a host of wrongs.

This is the point to Paul’s question…

Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

 Grace is a wonderful thing…

But all the grace in the world

will not save a child or a person.

God demonstrated His love

(His grace) for us in this…

“Christ died for sinners”

Imagine anyone taking advantage of God’s love.

The last verse in Romans 6 says…

For the wages of sin is death,

but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 Romans 6:23

God’s grace and love makes Him patient

although we deserve a spanking…

Death when we sin.

He is patient with you,

 not wanting anyone to perish,

but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

So, should we go on sinning

because God’s grace abounds?

No!!!

Why? …

Because God’s grace makes away

to be saved from the wages of sin.

But God’s grace does not save you.

God’s grace gives you and I

the opportunity to repent.

The opportunity to die to sin.

This is the point Paul makes in Romans 6.

Don’t take advantage of God’s grace.

Don’t be a spoiled brat.

Paul drives this question home again in verse 15.

What then?

Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?

By no means!

Romans 6:15

Paul is pointing out that grace is better than the law.

Yet, to the Old Testament Jewish believer

who grew up under the law,

they saw the law as a teacher of right and wrong.

If your parents raised you with rules and regulations,

And punishment and rewards were common in your house…

You know what pleases and displeases.

Many wonderful parents have tried to

raise their children to know right from wrong.

Some of these loving parents found

their child rebel from a life of rules.

The law is good, but will not save you.

So, if grace and the law will not save you

from the wages of sin, what will?...

Obedience

Our heavenly Father is full of grace and truth, or the law.

You can always find favor and the truth in Him.

It is His goodness or kindness

that leads us to repentance.

Romans 2:4

Paul’s point is, God is good,

full of grace, and the law (truth).

But for us, we need to change, because

we are slaves to sin and sin leads to death.

So, we must repent of sin and

be obedient, which leads to righteousness.

 Romans 6:16

Tell me a child who is not obedient to parents

who are full of grace…

What good is it for the child?

Tell me a child who is taught the truth about life,

the laws of right and wrong and is not obedient…

What good is it for the child?

Our God and Father has done everything for us

out of His great love, pouring out grace and truth.

What good is it if we do not repent and obey?

Become a slave to righteousness by obedience.

Scripture Reading

Romans 6 NIV

6:1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey — whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

19 I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. 20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
