Romans 5
Sin Followed One Man
For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
The key word is “Receive”
who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
The only hope is heart change, receiving Christ in our hearts
What will that do for us?
When Jesus Christ reigns in our hearts, the gift of righteousness reigns in our life
Romans 5:18-19
Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
“Many made righteous”
Jesus reigning in our hearts, results in life change
the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.
There are a lot of complicated problems in the world
We can choose to address those issues based on our feelings
And lack of Godly knowledge or we can turn to Jesus Christ
Who reigns in righteousness to find the answers that brings life to all men
Sin Followed One Man
If you come from a family
where your mother and father loved each other,
you are blessed.
If you come from a family
where your mother nurtured you
and your father worked to provide for you,
you are blessed.
Data shows in 2014,
40% of births in America were
outside of marriage.
This number does not include aborted babies.
The odds of these children living in poverty
is great and the odds of these girls growing up
and having children out of wedlock is increasing.
If you add the divorce rate
to the number of children without
a mother and father raising them…
You can see the struggles
of children to grow up increases.
Governments are trying to keep up with the social problems
that arise from the lack of family.
Children are born with God-given gifts…
But often their potential is not reached
because the foolishness in the heart of a child.
Children are born with a self-center view,
they cry when they want to eat, sleep, etc.
They rebel at very early stages of life,
when they don’t get their way.
Without correction and instruction,
the seeds of self-centerness and rebellion grow.
Sadly, cute babies can grow up with major issues
because they lacked a good childhood development.
As these children grow to be parents,
they have less of an understanding and
ability for what their children need.
Thus, we see poverty and crime increase.
I know I run the risk of criticism…
But the cycle of one man’s sin
passes down to all.
Adam sinned and his failures were
passed down throughout every generation.
Some do better than others.
But we all struggle with doing life right.
Romans 5:16 says…
“…The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation,…”
The word “condemnation” is a very strong word meaning…
“To judge against, sentence”, condemn, damn.
Growing up I was not allowed to use the word “damn”.
It was a strong word I did not have the right to use.
It also was on the list of swear words
and we were not to swear at all.
Today, if you do a Google search of the word damn…
You will find the religious meaning.
But other than that, we have reduced it to a meaningless word
with our using it as a swear word and
the mockery of it such as damn hot, damn girl, best damn ____,
The entertainment industry has made
a mockery of the word damn.
Damn is still real.
We are condemned,
we are damned, without the Gift of God.
As I read the Word of God…
I find a need to get passed the mockery
and belittling of things we don’t like.
Damn is still a strong word.
You and I don’t have to see hell in order
to see how our sins are condemning us.
It is not God’s fault there is
overwhelming poverty and crime…
It is our fault.
We keep trying to fix the problems.
But most of the time,
we are so lost in our problems
we can’t see the truth to get help.
What is the answer to the problem
of judgment following one man’s sins
that brings condemnation in our lives on earth
and an eternity in hell?
Look at Romans 5:17…
For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man,
how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace
and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
The key word is “Receive”…
Who receive God's abundant provision of grace
and of the gift of righteousness reign in life
through the one man, Jesus Christ.
The only hope is…
Heart change, receiving Christ in our hearts
What will that do for us?
When Jesus Christ reigns in our hearts,
the gift of righteousness reigns in our life.
Romans 5:18-19…
Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
“Many made righteous”
Jesus reigning in our hearts results in life change…
the result of one act of righteousness
was justification that brings life for all men.
There are a lot of complicated problems in the world…
We can choose to address those issues based on our feelings
and lack of Godly knowledge.
Or, we can turn to Jesus Christ,
who reigns in righteousness
to find the answers that brings life to all men.
Scripture Reading
Romans 5:15-19 NIV
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16 Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
18 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
