Romans 2
What You Have Done
We all should think about what we have done before we judge others
Remember when we see actions, deeds of sin, to be like God
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? Romans 2:4
Always be the person who is rich in kindness, tolerance, and patience
Your kindness may be the key to someone’s repentance
What You Have Done
Paul brings on some very strong words about
God’s wrath and judgment in Chapters 1and 2.
As a parent, I did not like to spank or discipline my children.
I always enjoyed and loved spending time with my children
and hated to see the good time disrupted by wrong actions.
As a good father, I knew it was my responsibility
to bring correction when needed.
As a parent, there is the fear a child
will not receive correction and rebel.
Paul reminds us to never forget God’s
goodness when it comes to His wrath.
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
Romans 2:4
There are times in life when you don’t do something
because you fear the consequences.
Wrath is a good deterrent.
But we should never forget God’s kindness
and never take advantage of it.
I remember times in my life that I did not do something wrong
because I feared breaking the heart of those who love me.
God disciplines those He loves.
Love is a great deterrent.
Our God is on the reward system.
He rewards us according to what we have done.
You and I are doing something
every second of the day and night.
You may call it “nothing” but it is something.
You may think about what you are doing
or you may not have a care…
But you are doing something.
What you do, you may see value in or no value in,
but you are doing something.
Ecclesiastes says there is a time
and a season for everything.
There are a lot of things we do in life…
And God is concerned with what we do.
God "will give to each person according to what he has done."
Romans 2:6
God loves to reward us.
One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that you, O God, are strong,
and that you, O Lord, are loving.
Surely you will reward each person
according to what he has done.
Psalms 62:11-12
God also repays us for doing wrong.
If you say, "But we knew nothing about this,"
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?
Proverbs 24:12
Paul told the Roman believers
there are two types of “Doers”.
To those who by persistence in doing good
seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.
Romans 2:7
The second type of “Doer” he says…
But for those who are self-seeking and
who reject the truth and follow evil,
there will be wrath and anger.
Romans 2:8
God rewards and God punishes according to what we do.
“God does not show favoritism.”
Romans 2:11
Paul was preaching the same message as Jesus.
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye
and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
Matthew 7:3
We need to be very careful how we judge others.
Paul says…
“To the Jew first than the Gentile”.
What that means when the Jew and the Gentile
have done something right…
The Jew stands in line first to receive their reward
than the Gentile receives their reward.
By the same token…
When it comes to a spanking,
the Jew is first, then the Gentile,
both get the spanking.
God does not show favoritism.
Today we may not struggle like
the Church in Rome, as Jews and Gentiles.
But we all have to watch out that we do not
think of ourselves better than the other.
Your position does not make you better
or less than another.
You will be rewarded by your deeds
and disciplined by your deeds.
.
To those of us who have had the Truth,
the scriptures say…
To whom much is give much is required.
Also, we see leaders will be
judged by a stricter standard.
So let us be very careful to make sure we are
walking upright before we judge others.
We all should think about what we
have done before we judge others.
Remember when we see actions,
deeds of sin, to be like God.
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
Romans 2:4
Always be the person who is
rich in kindness, tolerance, and patience.
Your kindness may be the key to someone’s repentance.
Scripture Reading
Romans 2:5-11 NIV
5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.
