Romans 5 Demonstration of Love

Romans 5

Demonstration of Love

Description: God Loves You This Much | Darrell Creswell - A Study of Christian Grace

Look closely at this verse

For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Romans 5:10

We were “enemies” of God

We received through His death, reconciliation

That is great news, but look at the last part of the verse

“…shall we be saved through his life!”

It is more than His death that gives us reconciliation

We get life through His resurrection

He arose from the dead to give us new life

Chapter 6 of Romans, will describe what that new life looks like

It will not tell us about heaven, but a new life here and now

When is the last time you stopped to think about God’s demonstration of Love?

What is your demonstration to God’s wonderful gift?

Demonstration of Love

I like to see demonstrations of things I am interested in.

Demonstrations are popular…

From the sale of cooking knives

to large protests in the streets.

To demonstration, you need to stand with someone or thing.

You need to exhibit proof or evidence.

You need to give approval.

How do we demonstrate love?

How do we demonstrate the love

we have for a puppy, a child or a spouse?

How do we let others know we love them?

How far will your demonstration go to prove your love?

\

By the sadistic, our demonstration of words

when we say “till death do we part”,

don’t prove we love.

We demonstrate love for those who are loveable.

I marvel at how a person can love a chipmunk

and hate a snake.

How often is our love based on what is cute or good looking.

So how does a God of Love demonstrate His love?

Romans 5:8 gives us the answer…

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

 Romans 5:8

God’s love for you and I existed before we were born.

God’s love for us did not focus on how…

Imperfect, disobedient, unloving,

uncaring, hurtful, mean, rebellious, etc.

God’s demonstration of love

stood with us when we were sinners.

Demonstrating love means you

are willing to give something.

We look at the cost of a gift to

determine the degree of love.

It is a kind act to give a homeless person

enough money to buy a meal…

But greater love goes to the son or daughter

when we buy them their first car.

God gave, the homeless and the

children of the world, the same gift.

God gave His only Son,

not only to teach us about God and life…

But God so loved the world that

He gave His Son to die for us.

Jesus died for the protesters who put Him on the cross.

Remember Jesus in His final breaths on the cross said…

“Father forgive them for they no not what they do.”

You tell me…

If you were God what would you

do for the sinners of the world?

If you were God and had the same emotions,

full spectrum of hate and love, wrath and freedom…

What would you demonstrate to the world?

Would it be love or wrath or would you pick and choose?

God choose to demonstrate His love

by offering His Son up as a sacrifice for our sin.

That is amazing.

I know we have heard it many times before…

We celebrate it once a year with Easter bunnies and egg hunts.

Has the impact of God’s love been taken for granted?

Does what He did, fill our hearts with the gratitude

His love and sacrifice deserves?

 Look closely at this verse…

For if, when we were God's enemies,

we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son,

how much more, having been reconciled,

shall we be saved through his life!

Romans 5:10

We were “enemies” of God.

Scripture Reading

Romans 5:6-11 NIV

6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
