Fruit of Repentance
The Road of Repentance
Repentance is the road work to reach the Lord
Repentance is the only road that leads to God
Repentance is the only road to the Kingdom of God
Repentance is the process of getting out of us
The things that keep us from moving forward
How straight is your road to God?
“Prepare the way… a highway for our God” Isaiah 40:3
The Road of Repentance
Repentance is the road work to reach the Lord.
The Prophet Isaiah said there would be a voice.
This voice would be in a desert place.
The voice that carried out over
the desolate, waste land was
crying out for the building of a road.
Isaiah said…
“Prepare the way… a highway for our God”
Isaiah 40:3
John the Baptist became that voice.
John gives a name to the road.
John defines the making of that road.
John says…
"Repent"
Matthew 3:2
It is interesting the children of Abraham
were oppressed in the land of Egypt.
Egypt was the world at that time.
A place with everything
except the one true God.
God made a way of escape
for the children of Abraham.
The escape was not
to a land of richness…
But a land of emptiness.
Their escape was into a
wilderness, a waste land.
Although the land of promise,
rich and full, was as some
account 11 days journey.
Yet, the people traveled for 40 years.
There are many stories along the roads
they made through the wilderness.
Those stories tell us God could
get the people out of Egypt…
But getting Egypt, or the world,
out of the people was more difficult.
This was also true in John
the Baptist’s day and ours.
Repentance is the only
road that leads to God.
Repentance is the only
road to the Kingdom of God.
Repentance is the process of
getting out of us the things that
keep us from moving forward.
How straight is your road to God?
Scripture Reading
Matthew 3:1-10 NIV
3:1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea 2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:
"A voice of one calling in the desert,
'Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.'"
4 John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. 5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6 Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
