Is it Appropriate to Say “Thank You”?
Psalms 42 is the working out of 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
The command to our soul in sad and troubling circumstances, should be
“Put your Hope In God”
Why?
Because He is “my Savior and my God”
Our God is powerful enough to save us today and for all eternity
Whether it is the big picture of life in this world
Or, the little picture of your daily bread
Your God wants you to know He is your Savior
He wants you to have Hope in Him because
He wants you to Always be Joyful
Pray continually (talk over every concern, cast all your cares on Him)
And in all (every) circumstance Give Thanks
Hope is the word and our God is where we put our Hope
Don’t ever forget
Remind your down cast soul
Put Your HOPE in GOD!!!
Than JUST DO IT!!!
Isn’t God’s will for you wonderful?
Have you told Him thank you today?
Is it appropriate to say “Thank You”?
Is it Appropriate to Say “Thank You”?
Our first response would be “Yes”.
But why?
To say “thank you”,
you have to have gratitude,
you have to be appreciative of something.
There are so many things
we never say thank you for…
Things we take for granted.
Things we think we earned or deserve.
So where do we draw the
line and say “Thank you”?
I have a lot of things in my
life I am not thankful for.
I am not thankful for the Cronia Virus.
I am not thankful for cold rainy days.
Yet, I am thankful for money to go on vacation.
Or, to buy something enjoyable.
There seems to be two sides to our lives.
On the one side…
Are things we are not thankful for.
And on the other side…
Things we are thankful for.
And a middle that is muddied up by both sides.
God’s Word tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18…
Be joyful always; pray continually;
give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Well there it is.
If you want to know God’s will for your life…
“Give thanks in all circumstance”
It is not always easy to keep a
positive attitude and be “joyful always”.
There are circumstances I take for granted,
I think I deserve better, or just don’t like.
So if I am going to get into
the place God want me to be…
A place of being joyful always
and thankful in all circumstances…
How do I do it?
We could take 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 as a command…
Be joyful always;
pray continually;
give thanks in all circumstances,
In other words JUST DO IT!!!
Years ago I was feeling sorry for myself
and went to my wife who was hanging
clothes in the closet for sympathy.
She turned to me and put her
finger in my face and said…
“You need to know what God
called you to do and DO IT.”
I got no sympathy,
but I did get what I needed…
A strong rebuke and command.
I did it and it changed my life.
I think there is also another way
we should answer the question…
How do I do it?
Instead of a command…
Let’s look at God’s desire,
His will for you and I.
He wants our lives to be filled with…
Rejoicing
Full conversations with Him (Prayer),
And Thanksgiving (gratitude) always.
How can we have this…
“Always, Continually, in All Circumstances?
I think the key word is “HOPE”.
The Psalmist says…
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
